Capsule newbies to take you from winter to spring

I love clothes. I love buying new clothes even more. And yet over the years, my love of travel and nice food has far outweighed my need to online shop, meaning I buy myself new bits less and less these days. Well, that could also be due to the sheer volume of stuff I already own, and therefore I a) don't have many metaphorical gaps in my wardrobe and b) don't have many physical gaps in my wardrobe. I am still a shameful fast fashion shopper, and most of my new clothes come from ASOS or Shein, but I make myself feel better about it because I don't chuck stuff out quickly; my fast fashion pieces remain in my wardrobe, worn, and loved for years and years. So despite the fact that new clothes are no longer my payday priority, the teasing of the new season did feel like the perfect time to get myself a few treats. But overconsumption is out girlies, so I thought I'd show you how the bits I chose will be taking me from winter through to sunny spring!

It's been so long since I've written a try-on blog post that I have a new photo spot! This gorgeous mirror is the latest addition to my beautiful dressing room and I felt like it deserved to finally get its moment of glory.

So first up, we're starting in the here and now: the tail end of winter. We're transitioning from big jumpers to fine knits, and from thick and chunky to more delicate layering. Like most other people right now, I'm having a moment over shades of red, from cherry to burgundy. So this fine knit jumper jumped out to me immediately. I love this kind of fabric and the elongated neckline and slightly wide sleeves gave this one something about it. I was also on the hunt for some burgundy boots and while these are more on the brown end of burgundy than the red one, I'm obsessed with these and love the shiny patent finish. Because we're past the point of the year for doubling up on the warm pieces, I lightened this outfit up with a floaty pleated skirt. I'm normally an A-line girl but felt my wardrobe was missing something in this style and I felt like this denim-esque shade would go with loads.

Because we're going with the capsule style, we're sticking with the gorgeous boots and doing another bit of double burgundy (I told you I was into it at the moment). I've always been a big fan of a tailored trouser, and like to have options in every colour. But most of mine are a more tailored fit and I wanted some more wide leg options. These ones are super thin and light so they're the perfect transitional pair, and they have an asymmetric waistline fastening that I think is really cool. The cardigan is potentially off season since sparkles to me always feel like they're for the run-up to Christmas. But I couldn't resist this piece and, to say it's from Shein, the quality is literally amazing. Such a soft lovely knit and the sparkle bow buttons are a gorgeous fun detail.

Day 1 readers of Jenni from the block may remember that I was always obsessed with co-ords. They were essentially the backbone of my blog for about a year and, fun fact, a co-ord 'ways to wear' blog post was the first one I featured photos of myself on way back in April 2014! We may have moved on slightly since then but my love of the co-ord persists (let's not even start on my love of dogtooth; that's a forever kind of love). Like all trends, it has evolved. Instead of the short, pastel skirt sets, I'm now looking at trouser sets that scream old money. I feel like co-ords at the moment are going back to their literal meaning; co-ordinated, not matching. So this trouser set isn't an identical top and bottom half, but the white stripes and lovely fine knit fabric match them together in harmony. I would definitely wear both of these pieces separately too, so it was a good buy. Another good buy were these little pumps because I felt like I was missing a dainty flat shoe option. I always wear gold jewellery so love the gold detailing on the top of these (which also matched the buttons of the top perfectly).

Let's imagine we're in mid Spring now. The need for knits is starting to fade away, but we're not quite in t-shirt weather. However, we're wanting to add some fun and floatiness into our wardrobes. So we're sticking with the knitted trousers from the co-ord, but we're swapping out the top for this tie-up crochet blouse. I feel like this has quite a festival feel and I'm definitely planning to pair it with denim shorts and cowboy boots at some point. But this time, I went back to the patent burgundy boots to finish the look.

I personally don't feel that you can ever have too many simple long sleeve tops/bodysuits. They give you a lovely silhouette, they're perfect under knits, and they're great for jeans-and-a-nice-top outfits. I really like the black edge detail on this one and the cute little bow! Pairing these trousers with a bodysuit also means you can see the detail on the waistband better. I finished with the black pumps again as I can see myself wearing these lots this Spring.

By now, we're getting fully into Spring swing. The sun is shining, if not hot, and the sleeveless pieces are starting to find their way back out of the wardrobe. This sleeveless knitted top is one that grabbed my eye immediately because I love the print and again, it's got that old money, luxury feel. To be honest, I'm not 100% sold on this sleeve cut on me. I don't know if it's my most flattering choice. But I loved the top so much I figured I'd make it work as long as I paired it with the right thing. In this case, it was the floaty blue skirt again but this time with the black pumps for a slightly more sunny feel than the boots.

How glorious it'll be when bare leg season arrives! Proving already how versatile this skirt is, I love it just as much as a winter piece with tights, as I do a summer piece on its own. At the beginning of bare leg season, I do like to opt for boots sometimes rather than shoes to keep it as a Spring rather than a Summer look. So the burgundy boots were back, and I finished the outfit with this little black top with white mesh detail. Day 1 readers may also remember my love of mesh, so to be honest I'm pretty much saying it's Spring 2014 again and everyone should get the chunky cleated sole shoes and pastel-coloured bomber jackets back again!
