Palma mia, here we go again
Okay so I am horrendously late with this blog post (like a month late lol) but it's about time I filled you in on my trip to Palma! Last year was very much a year of baecations, as holidays with friends and family take a bit more forward planning and 2021 didn't exactly allow for that. So this year, I've been making up for lost time with family and friend holidays, and me and my mum realised we were overdue a mother daughter trip. Having been to Venice, Milan and Rethymon together before, this year we ventured to the Balearics for a couple of nights in Palma.
Despite having been to Mallorca a number of times, I've never actually stayed in Palma or explored the old town so that's exactly what we decided to do. We chose the Melia Palma Bay because it was only a short walk from everything and had a lovely, almost-Scandi vibe inside. Don't worry, me and my mum do have personal boundaries - the shower had a blind that came down to separate it from the bedroom.
With only 2 nights away, there was no time to hang around. Plus we were starving so we headed straight out in search of a late lunch! We didn't exactly have to go very far, as there was a beach club about 10 minutes up the bay where we had drinks and pasta in the sunshine. It was such a beautiful day and not too hot (around 23 degrees) so I went with a leopard print floaty skirt, white top with crochet sleeves and strappy brown sandals that go with literally everything.
It's not exactly hard to see why I liked this hotel right? For anyone who's read even one of my holiday blog posts before, you'll know I'm a sucker for a rooftop pool. This one was up there with the best as it had an incredible view of the old town, made even better by adding a couple of Aperol Spritz'.
The sunsets in the Balearics are always beautiful and we were treated to one of their finest as we headed out for dinner. Who's to say that you need to buy a whole new wardrobe whenever you go on holiday? This playsuit is one that I've had for years and I still love it just as much; I love how floaty it is and it's super fun to swish around in. I paired it with black lace up sandals and gold handbag, plus a red colour pop lipstick. We'd initially planned to walk into the old town, but we found a strip of restaurants just around the corner that overlooked the sea and decided to have a look there instead. We ended up at the loveliest restaurant, watching the sun go down, where we both had seafood dishes and splashed out on a dessert too.
The next morning, we actually did head into the old town to explore. It was set to be a scorcher so I wore cream linen shorts, green, black and cream print cami and black sliders with gold detail which were a primark bargain. When we had a look at things to do in the old town, it was really only the cathedral that came up as a suggestion. So we had a bit of an aimless wander round, checking out beautiful building after beautiful building as we went. They didn't actually seem to be anything (or at least, nothing you could go in) but it certainly made for nice viewing. And then we stopped for a hydration stop; a couple of beers in the sunshine.
When it got to lunch time, we decided to choose a spot in the main square as it had a lovely atmosphere and lots of options. Most of them were very similar in vibes so we ended up getting a picky lunch; pizza, salad and tapas. Plus a bowl-like glass of sangria, naturally.
The last (and most famous) stop on walking tour was up next as we had a slow wander down to the cathedral. Obviously we couldn't resist getting an ice cream on the way and the cathedral itself was really a sight to behold. So impressive and magnificent!
It was still the early afternoon by this point so we headed back to our hotel with the intention of spending the rest of the day on the beach. Because of sod's law (and because it was us) it started chucking it down while we were there! So we hotfooted it back to our hotel (by which point it had brightened up again) and opted for a spot round our hotel pool instead.
Having evidently not walked far enough already (we definitely had), we decided to walk into the old town for dinner. Again, it was another beautiful sunset so it did make for a lovely walk in fairness! The cathedral looked even more stunning at night. This time, I was wearing black shorts with crochet trim detail, pink floaty off-the-shoulder top and the same black lace up heels and gold bag.
We chose a Mediterranean restaurant where we both got cocktails plus the steak, which was amazing (although it was served on a very questionable choice of plate). We had the loveliest time and it was nice to have chance for a proper mother daughter gossip.
After spending the morning round the pool, we checked out of our hotel and headed off on a wander down to the marina. This dress is one of my holiday favourites and it felt especially fitting in Mallorca where they have so many pretty pink flowers! It wasn't the most suitable for a long walk but you know me; practicality is not my middle name. The walk was lovely, the weather was lovely and the restaurant we found was even lovelier; the view, the drinks, the food! We had a couple of cocktails, shared a pizza and a salad (plus some completely unnecessary chips that were a case of eyes-bigger-than-belly) and then spent the afternoon sipping prosecco before heading to the airport to return home. We had the best time and it was so nice to spend quality time together, even more so now we no longer live together (which we still did on our other trips). One things for sure, we won't be leaving it so long before our next trip!
