Livin la v-easter loca
If there is one way to sum up living in England, it's this week's weather report. Glorious sunshine all weekend, only to descend into snow later in the week; you literally couldn't make it up! At least it was that way round though, as I was able to make the most of the lovely sunshine over the 4 day Easter weekend.
With the weekend starting a day early, me and Ollie had our date night on Thursday (hopefully one of the last ones at home before places start to open again!). I went with a fairly gold ensemble for the occasion; gold draped skirt, black embroidered top and gold strappy heels. I also went for some equally glitzy accessories with lots of sparkly gold rings, planet earrings and queen hair slide. For this week's cuisine, we went with an Indian, having recently discovered a new favourite. Everything was amazing and we made some excellent menu choices (if I do say so myself).
On to Friday and the clue was in the title as it was a very good day indeed. With the sun shining, I headed to Laura's for some birthday drinks with her and the girls. Obviously, this time last year was the absolute height of lockdown with most takeaways not even open so I don't think Laura minded at all that it was drinks in the garden rather than in a bar - just as long as we got to celebrate this year! The outfit was kind of hard to choose because I knew we'd be out until it was cold, so I went with strategic layering. I wore a floral bodysuit (I saw it first) under a pink blazer (boohoo) with black jeans and nude boots (simmi shoes), and then came armed with my teddy coat (shein) for later on!
The sun was shining again on Saturday, which was well timed as I had another day of fun-in-the-sun planned, this time with Little Katie. Armed with my favourite, super cute picnic backpack, we set up camp in Wollaton Park with lots of tasty nibbles and plenty of prosecco and cocktail cans. Again, it's a hard look to outfit plan for. You obviously want to look chic but comfort and warmth are the main goal here. So I wore black jeans, brown long sleeve top (shein) and cream cropped denim jacket which is a new addition and one that I love. I got it from Nasty Gal, who I've never shopped with before but it was half price and exactly what I was looking for. They only had sizes 4 and 6 left so being a 10, I risked a 6 and was surprised it still has an oversized fit?! They only have size 4 left in now but anyone considering buying, I reckon I could've even got away with the size down so don't be put off. You know I'm not one for a totally plain outfit so I added some print with a leopard headband and again, brought my teddy coat for some warmth later on. But I actually didn't even need it until we left, having hung on until the bitter end when the sun was setting and the park was closing. And then we hot-footed it out of there as drinking on Wollaton park, accidentally getting locked in and having to climb over the gate/wall is a rite of passage at 14, but not so cute when you're pushing 25.
Easter Sunday next and I wanted to finally start giving my summer wardrobe some air time (given the sad circumstances that kept all my beautiful items hidden away for a whole extra year). This milkmaid dress was from Shein and I just love the way it fits and the little extra details like the ties down the front and the lace around the neckline. But because it was April and not August, I added a fluffy white cardigan (I wasn't necessarily going for easter bunny vibes but I'm not mad about it) and white heeled boots, before finishing with a multi row gold necklace.
Every year that I've been keeping this blog, I have documented my Easter. And every year (bar last one), we have had an Easter egg hunt. And every year, my mum has said it would be the last one she'd do. Needless to say, every year has ended up a lie, as she always does another. With last year evidently making one impossible, me and Aidan thought that might really be it. It turns out that all my mum needed was a little absence to make the heart grow fonder, as it was her idea to do this year's! I think it helped that she had a new location (since moving house) and a new audience (since Ollie was officially initiated this year). Obviously the time off gave her inspiration too as it was fabulous and we even had to do a shot from an ice shot glass and then smash it to find the clue frozen inside. Genius. I naturally won (as I do every year) but I'm glad that I now have someone to split the chocolate with, rather than having to pile on the pounds alone.
After doing more socialising than I've done in the last 6 months combined, it was nice to have a super chilled day on Monday. I wanted to make the most of the sun (before the snow came) so me and Ollie went out for a walk to Wollaton Park (apparently you couldn't keep me away from the place this weekend). You can't escape the PU trend this season and naturally, I've bought it in every kind of apparel. I love the fit and colour of these shorts and they're perfect for this time of year. I wore them with black tights, chunky black boots, "you can't hang with us" angel tee and dogtooth scarf. Again I added my teddy coat because although the sun was beautiful, it was still freezing out. That didn't stop us from finishing our walk with gelato though. What can I say? We're British to the core.
