Kiss me like you wanna be loved
I know what you're thinking. What a weird time to be buying new lipsticks. Given that we've all been stuck indoors for a year and the times we do go out, our lips are covered by a mask. But I think that the pandemic has shown that we really do do things for ourselves and no one else. For my days of sitting at home, I still get up and do my makeup and pick a nice outfit and finish with lipstick and perfume. I had a brief break from it all when I wasn't working and was spending my time painting walls and building flat pack, but I'm well and truly back to it now. And I felt like there were a few gaps in my lipstick collection (surely impossible given the size of it?) so I went on a little shopping spree. I'm well over the days of spending £15-£25 on just one lipstick - I'll repurchase my favourites of course but I think my days of spending hundreds on new lipsticks are over (eugh I'm so old and sensible now). So naturally, I turned to Revolution to choose some cheap-in-price-but-not-in-quality lipsticks to expand my range!
Let's just pretend that my swatches aren't horrifically messy; I was in a race against the clock as I was quickly losing daylight. One of my favourite eyeshadow palettes of all time is my Soph x Revolution Extra Spice one and I also love the Soph x Revolution Lipstick in Cake that I already have. So with full faith in the collection, I thought I'd go for the other two lipstick shades too. First up is Syrup, which is a lovely warm nude colour and a great every day shade. Fudge is slightly darker and richer with even warmer undertones. All of the lipsticks in this range have a really creamy texture and go on like butter, yet they have the staying power of something more matte. They have such a nice formula and are great for this time of year; I personally don't like anything too drying in winter as you're already battling with the elements. And for only £4 each? Hardly surprising that I needed all 3.
Variety is the spice of life, as I always say, and so I thought I'd sample a few of the different lipstick ranges on offer (and simply chose my favourite shade from each of them). The first one was a Revolution Powder Matte Lipstick and I went for the shade Spice. I'm obsessed with the shade; I LOVE super warm, orange-toned shades and this one is at the perfect point between a neutral and a bright. I have to say though, I didn't love the feel of it. It looks nice on, but it was so matte that it required quite a lot of dragging when applying. I bet it has good staying power but it could be drying when wearing it all day. I did really like the formula of the next one though! The New Neutral Blushed Satin Matte Lipstick was part of the Revolution Pro range (rather than just Revolution) and having had a few bits from there now, I do think it's that small cut above (and worth the extra pound or so). I chose the shade Latte and it was such a great decision. It's a yellow-toned medium nude and a great addition to my current selection as a lot of my nudes have either warm or cool undertones. It had a really powdery finish but not in the way that felt dry; it almost felt like you didn't even have lipstick on! Also, extra bonus points for the cute packaging. The third one also has super cute packaging with the lips on the casing and even carved into the lipstick itself! I went with the shade Rosé in the Satin Kiss lipstick range and it's a gorgeous deep, warm rose pink (as the name suggests). Buying lipsticks online without trying them out is hard work anyway (I always look for the shade on google images in the hope some helpful blogger has posted a swatch or a photo of it on) - so Revolution's website didn't need to make the job harder by posting a swatch photo that doesn't even show the right shades. If you do buy any of the lipsticks in this range (would recommend - lovely creamy matte finish) then ignore the swatch photo on the page and go off of the colours in the drop-down that the shade names are set against.
I've pretty much gone full circle in the lipstick game; starting with bullet lipsticks and then falling into the hype of liquid lipsticks before realising bullet lipsticks are the ones I love the most. And yet, it's always nice to have choice. So naturally, I couldn't resist buying a couple of liquid lipsticks, although I try and look out for satin finishes, rather than super mattified ones. I already have a few of the Crème Lip ones and they have a really nice light formula; nothing too sticky or thick or drying. And at only £3, I just had to have another, this time in the shade Attraction 105. This one is a kind of warm, dark apricot colour and the kind that I wear all the time. And lastly, I went with the literal Apricot shade, which is part of the Tasty Peach Liquid Lipstick range. It's by I Heart Revolution, which is more of a fun sub-brand with quirky packaging. I expected the quality to be slightly lower because of this but was proved nicely wrong. It does what it says on the tin and "glides on like a gloss and dries to a demi-matte finish" just as the website promises. Peachy!
