Fun signs you're in a committed relationship
We all love the honeymoon period don't we? But how do you know when you've crossed the border into committed relationship territory, other than the obvious I-love-you's and conversations about the future? In honour of Valentine's Day being just around the corner, I thought I'd highlight some fun signs that you're definitely in a committed relationship.
Netflix has rules
At the start of a relationship, Netflix is just something that you put on subconsciously, but if you're in commitment territory then you probably have shows that you've decided to watch together and it would be an unthinkable crime to watch ahead without your significant other. And no one is committing to watching a show together (especially one with several seasons) without knowing they'll definitely be finishing it together too. A big Netflix-related milestone in my own relationship was when I made the move off my family Netflix account and onto my boyfriend's (no, I've certainly never had to pay for my own). All those recommendations and years of Netflix learning my taste on the line - but I started fresh because we were just that serious!
Sleeping becomes an extreme sport
Couples who are in the casual, dating, just-seeing-how-it-goes stage will probably be falling asleep entangled together, staying as a big spoon and a little spoon all night long. Once you've been together a while and think you'll be staying that way, it's time to take good quality sleep seriously again! So it's over to your own side of the bed and god help them if they snore or cross over the centre line in the night. I say 'them' but I'm actually the nightmare in our bed; I could sleep through a hurricane meanwhile I like to wake Ollie up with lots of snoring and thrashing around (sorry babe).
The ick no longer exists
We've all seen the hilarious tweets about the weird and wonderful things that have given girls the ick on guys they've been dating. Things like owning a printer, ordering something that was unavailable in a restaurant or having an Android phone! When you're first interested in someone, honestly the most minute thing could totally put you off to the point where you wondered how you ever fancied them in the first place (we all know that once you've got the ick, there's no going back). And yet, once you're head over heels in love, the ick ceases to be a thing anymore. Your partner can do or say the most weird, cringey or disgusting things and yet you still look like the heart-eyes emoji whenever you look at them. This crazy little thing called love right?
You start to become one
Okay so none of us like to be a 'we' couple (when I first told my friend Katie that me and Ollie had said we loved each other for the first time, that was the first thing she said never to become!). But it's kind of impossible when you've been together a while not to start to merge a little. Your sense of humour is scarily the same, it's a given that it'll be both of you at family events and you may even have joint things like houses, pets or bank accounts (that I naturally prefer spending money from over my own). For me, I realised we were at a serious point when we inherited our very own couple name! And I'm jolly glad we did too because here we are now, about to celebrate our second Valentine's Day. Celebration blog post (possibly) to follow...
