NY resolution? Completed it mate

According to ~science~ (okay, an article I read online), the most common day for giving up with your New Year's resolutions is January 19th. This is rather a satisfying statistic for me, because this also happened to be the date that I had an interview that led to me ticking one of my New Year's resolutions off: get a new job.

Given that I was unemployed by choice, I was in the fortunate position where I could make sure that my next career move was the right one, instead of feeling like I was desperate and needing to take any job that was offered. I was actually offered a different new job while I was still working my notice period at my old one and while the company seemed like a great fit, they would only stretch as far as matching my old salary. I'm very motivated by money (always have been) and I've had a number of salary-based goals since the age of 18 - one for the time I'm 30 and one for the time I'm 36. Although this unexpected stage in my career may have switched tracks a little, I was determined that it wasn't going to throw me off altogether. So it may have been risky but I turned down the job that otherwise sounded great to pursue a job that would keep me on track to achieve my goals and get me the pay rise that I was after.

Well, it turns out that I didn't need to wait too long for that to come along! As of tomorrow, you will be looking at the new Marketing and Content Manager for Dice Consulting, thus ending the blissful time in my life of being a kept woman. I'm really excited about it and I've got a particularly good feeling because the recruiter who placed me in my favourite job in my career so far (Potter Clarkson) is also the one who's placed me in this new role. Is that a good omen? I think so!

Naturally then, this weekend was one for celebrating. Date night attire is getting increasingly harder to decide on because normally on nights out in winter, I could wear almost any outfit and know I'd be protected by my alcohol coat and the sweatiness of whatever bar or club we were at. Well, at home, it's not really the same is it. So trying to decide on dressy but winter-safe outfits is a bit of a challenge. Eventually I settled on this ASOS jumpsuit which I've had for absolutely ages now and still love just as much. I added gold heels and gold dangly earrings and then threw my hair over to try and disguise how long it'd been since I washed it (lol you don't want to know).

With all the perks of me and Ollie now living out in the sticks full-time, it does mean our delivery choices are somewhat more limited (RIP to the days of living in the city centre and being in the delivery postcode for every single restaurant). But I did a bit of googling and found a pub that was doing delivery through lockdown. And if their lovely sounding menu wasn't already enough of a selling point, the fact that it was called Oliver's pretty much did the trick. They were also doing takeaway drinks! So we got a couple of cocktails, a halloumi skewer, chicken goujons, a big boy burger (I'm talking 3 patties, salad, nachos, sauce; the whole shebang), fries and criss-cross fries. Everything was amazing and I was especially excited at having cocktails that I hadn't had to make myself. We had the loveliest night celebrating and now it's time for my life as a career woman to recommence! Next chapter, let's go...
