Oh I do like to be beside the seaside

So who else had the loveliest weekend then? It may have taken me a while to blog about it, sure, but I've got to it in the end. And having seen the weather forecast for last Sunday, I was keen to make the most of the last of the summer sun...

Me and Ollie have now taken a couple of lovely trips since my shielding ended, first to a hot tub lodge and then to a spa hotel but when thinking of a nice day trip for us to take to make the most of the sun, I realised I hadn't been on a beach all year!! Deciding it was completely unacceptable since we're nearly in the last quarter, I started looking at where to go. We were planning a day trip so didn't want anywhere too far and thought the train would be better than driving so we could both drink. Sometimes the simplest answers are often the best and so we booked tickets to Skegness! Ollie had never been before either so I was excited to show him all the class and culture that the place had to offer. It was a relatively early start so our first stop after passing by the market selling knock-off playboy clothes was breakfast!

Then we headed on a walk along the beach and I got to sink my feet in the sand for the first time in 2020! There was a minor wardrobe concern though - not from me but from Ollie. As you can see, I dressed for the summer sun that had been promised and wore this black off the shoulder top, printed skorts (shein) and black sandals (a cheap copy of the gucci style, shein again). Naturally, when Ollie reached for jeans, I told him it would be really warm and to wear shorts. Well, the sun didn't break in Skegness until at least lunch time so it was actually kind of chilly as we walked along and I did worry for a second that I'd given him the wrong advice!

Obviously everyone knows that the best way to stay warm is to put your alcohol coat on! And also to simply wait until the sun comes out properly. So we headed for some drinks in a cute little pub overlooking the seafront.

By then the weather was really beautiful so we ventured back out to enjoy a classic seaside activity - mini golf! It was actually a really good course, although we did both end up having to go fishing for our balls a couple of times. Streams of water on mini golf courses are all fun and games for adding an element of danger, but not so fun when your ball ends up in one! Most importantly of all though, you'll notice the final scores. This is the second time me and Ollie have played mini golf now and the second time that I've been crowned the champion. Best of 3 babe?

And then we simply spent the rest of the afternoon doing exactly what we went there for; to relax on the beach! We were slightly too old and big for a donkey ride but I did still get to enjoy an ice cream. Although we weren't quite brave enough to dip our toes in the sea - we'll save that for somewhere with a slightly more exotic climate.

The last stop of our trip was a rule, a tradition, a rite of passage, if you will. Everyone knows that you can't go to the seaside without fish and chips, so we ended our day with dinner and drinks in the glorious sunshine. What a way to end the weekend.
