Mexican night with mi amor

If you've been reading my recent blog posts then you'll know that me and Ollie are doing weekly date nights while lock down continues. If you haven't been reading my recent blog posts then consider me insulted as we're all stuck at home with nothing else to do! This week, it was back to a Deliveroo night (after a successful DIY tapas feast last weekend) and we'd had our eye on Mexican for a while!

Okay, we're 3 date nights in so you should know the drill by now. Let's start with makeup! With more time on my hands than ever, I'm choosing to see it as an opportunity to put more time into things that I'd normally rush (like my makeup, like my blog posts) and I'm actually feeling the creative juices flowing a lot more. So I've decided to get my use out of a different eyeshadow palette each time, and put together a look using only one (instead of dipping into different shades from my many palettes). This week was the turn of my Juvia's Place Festival palette and I've loved this brand ever since first discovering them. The palettes are satisfyingly massive, the shades are super pigmented and varied in colour (which my friends will know is a bit of me) and they're pretty cheap too. I felt like it was time for a nice bright look (having not done one in yonks) and the blue and pinks were calling my name. I started by dusting a bit of Mmanwu in a wide arch over my crease and then deepened it with Iri Ji, taking that shade along my lower lash line too. Once it was slightly darker in the outer corners, it was time for the fun to begin. Using a flat eyeshadow brush, I packed Aba onto my lid, being careful not to take the thick shadow too high up. Because then it was time to blend blend blend! This look took quite a lot of patience and a hell of a lot of trust in the process as it naturally looked like dog shit when I first put the blue onto my eyes. But low and behold, the power of blending came through and I was very happy with the result. I added a tiny bit of Uli to the innermost corner and my tear duct and then finished with mascara, liner and lashes. Obviously because the eyes were so bright and colourful, I wanted something muted on the lips so I chose a nude gloss to finish. Oh and side note, why on earth have I only just discovered how much worse the front camera is than the normal one? All these years of trying to take eyeshadow selfies on my front camera and not being able to properly portray the amazingness of the shades or the blending or the pigment. Look at the difference between photo 1 and photo 2! Consider me converted.

Next up is the outfit and so far on these date nights, I've worn a dress and then a skirt so I felt it was time for a trouser outfit. Obviously nothing too casual though so I opted for underwear-as-outerwear in this black lace bodysuit and grey trousers. I love the silk section running down the side of the trousers and the way that they fit. So far I had a super bright makeup look and a super monochromatic outfit so I met in the middle of the two for the shoes - black floral strappy heels.

I've always been a believer that everything happens for a reason and while that normally applies to big life events, apparently it also applies to takeaways. After deciding on Mexican food, we were glad to see that Las Iguanas were still delivering and even had a look at the menu and what we would choose. However, by the time we were actually ready to order, they were closed! Still set on Mexican, we had a look around and ended up ordering from Papa Burrito (which I've never ordered from before). I got a naked burrito bowl, Ollie got a normal burrito, and then we shared some nachos, mac and cheese sticks and chilli fries. Well. Everything was amazing! And obviously I can't say with certainty, but I'm pretty sure it was better than Las Iguanas would've been. We were seriously stuffed and seriously impressed, and washed everything down with some mango rum cocktails and prosecco. It may look at this point like I'm having weekly date nights with myself, but Ollie's not a fan of photos anyway so pair that with the fact that his last hair cut was over a month ago and you'll understand why he's become a ghost on the blog. There's a pair of hair clippers on the way though so I'm going to be attempting a fade pretty soon - wish me luck!
