Got this love on lockdown
I believe that in life, you have to make the most of the hand that you're dealt. And while normally, I find myself with a royal flush (holidays every month, amazing friends, great job etc), right now, I'm pretty much working with a 9 high. But have games been won with a 9 high? Absolutely (probably). So instead of being constantly upset about the the ways in which my life is worse off because of the coronavirus (which I easily could do), I'm readjusting and making the most of things. So I can't plan exciting things like holidays or spa breaks right now, but that just means that there's some excitement spare to use elsewhere. Which I decided to pump into a cute little lockdown date night this weekend.
So far, I've only put makeup on about 40% of the time during lockdown but even then, it's obviously just my daily look. When was the last time I did full night out glam? I couldn't even tell you! So I took the opportunity to have some fun and play around with one of my many MANY eyeshadow palettes and did a warm smokey eye. I used my Beauty Bay Fiery palette and ran peaches'n'cream and then honey roast through my crease. Then I worked in a bit chocolate souffle, blending gradually so I didn't get a stark line. Then for the fun part; I added sunstone to the inner and outer parts of my lid using a flat brush, being careful to leave a gap (about a third) in the centre. Then, using the pad of my middle finger, I pressed all that glitters into the gap I left and then blended the lines with a mix of my finger and the flat brush. Matching the bottom to the top, I added chocolate souffle to the outer lower lash line, sunstone to the inner lower lash line and then all that glitters to the inner corner. Finishing the eyes with liner, mascara, and lashes, I then moved onto the face. My highlighter was a mix of Delilah liquid highlighter and then the famous Becca cosmetics powder in champagne pop. A little dusting of powder highlighter over my cupid's bow and then Taupe lipstick and that was the makeup complete!
On to the outfit and who said you needed to have somewhere to go to get all dressed up? I've had this bad boy since my 17th birthday and does it fail to still do me well? I don't think so. I love the bodycon fit of this river island dress and the panelled style. I added strappy black heels because no outfit, even one worn to your own house, is complete without heels (or a bag of crap in the corner of the photo, apparently).
Isn't it amazing that I even managed to be late for a date night at my own house? WELL, technically I wasn't late as Ollie insisted we order the food earlier than I said (on the basis it'd be slower than it said and it was actually much faster). We were headed to a lovely restaurant called the dining room which was serving the very best deliveroo-sourced food. Most of the options on deliveroo at the moment are corner takeaway styles but for date night, we were looking for something a little less greasy. So Bella Italia won out and we shared mozzarella carozza and calamari starters, and then tagliatelle carbonara and pollo vesuvio (spicy chicken) pizza for mains. All of which was served on my fancy plates, reserved for special occasions such as the Queen coming to tea (they're from Asda). And obviously because it was date night, and because we'd gone for Italian, it was accompanied by prosecco. We also enjoyed another bottle of prosecco and then some gin cocktails in a cute bar called the living room. After such a lovely date night (and weekend), I may have reassessed. Maybe I'm dealing with more like a queen or king high hand right now.
