Lights, a liquid lunch and lamborghinis

It seems like it's been a while since I've done one of these alliteration-style weekend blog posts (which, by the way, are always extremely hard to think of titles for) but I've had an eventful one. Starting on Friday night, which was the Christmas light switch on in town. Well, I say "switch on" but we didn't actually see them get switched on, as there was no time published online (other than to say "as the sun goes down", which we all know is about 3pm at this time of year) and also they apparently weren't doing fireworks with it anyway. So we didn't go to the light switch on so much as we went to the opening of the Winter Wonderland. I may be biased, but I think Nottingham does one of the best Christmas markets and it just seems to keep getting better every year. They've massively scaled up this year (with an additional 5-or-so bars) and have arranged it a bit more logically so you don't need to walk all round the houses to get into the Alpine bar. They've still got all the mega pretty fairy lights they had last year, and many of my personal food-stall-favourites are back (like the Melt stall). I officially kicked off the festive season by having my first mulled wine of the year, and me, Katie and Staci had a lovely night catching up and singing along to the band.

On to Saturday and me and Ollie had a date day planned. Date day, rather than date night, because I couldn't be late due to what I had planned on the Sunday, and he had his mate's birthday night out. So what daytime activity did we pick? Getting drunk all day, obviously. Initially, the idea had been bottomless brunch but I had a lash lift appointment in the morning that was clashing with the times that most places offered it. Luckily, Belgo do a bottomless menu all day! £30 for a 2 course meal and bottomless beer or prosecco, which is pretty good value. We both got croquettes to start (one cheese and one duck), and then I got fish and chips and Ollie got a burger. The food was all really good and the service was super fast (which is all you really want when you're going bottomless). At one point, the waiter practically took my glass off me as I was sipping it to top me up (5* service). Because I was all in the wintery mood after the night before, I brought out some of my winter wardrobe favourites, including my black thigh high boots and this dogtooth pinafore-style dress (that I layered over a white top).

Sunday was a lads day out for me, my brother and dad, as we drove down to Castle Donington for a supercar driving day. Although for most people, it would've been the most impressive line-up of cars they've ever seen in one place, it was actually all the slightly older models than those parked in my office car park on a daily basis (my boss' are serious car guys). They were mega fun to drive though! We did an Audi R8, an Aston Martin Vantage, a Ferrari California and a Lamborghini Gallardo. Let's just say they were a little more powerful than the Peugeot 107 I'm used to driving. And yet clearly, the adjustment suited me. Despite taking endless jokes about my bad driving ever since I started my lessons (3-4 years ago), I got the highest score of the day! I was especially thrilled to beat my dad, who is super competitive and hates losing. Clearly, it's not that I'm a bad driver - I'm just more naturally suited to a higher calibre of car. Something to take into account when I buy my next one, me thinks...
