It's 80s night, oh what a night
4 months ago, I had never been to the horse racing before in my life and now I've been 4 times! Well, when you work for a guy who loves the sport so much he owns a few race horses himself, it's not surprising that it's a natural choice for work nights out. This time, it was 80s night and, well aware that we'd be going out after, I didn't want to throw myself into the fancy dress too fiercely. However, I do like to make an effort with a theme and started thinking of ways that I could give a little nod to the 80s. Eventually, I settled on blazer dress with built-in shoulder pads, jazzy shoes, big earrings and big hair. I'm obsessed with the colour of this blazer dress, although it was super short; so short that I was worried any time people were going up the stairs behind me. But it fit really nice and considering it was my first time ordering from I Saw It First, I was very impressed and would definitely recommend. The shoes are a pair that not only worked for this event but that I can see myself living in. They're my favourite style (chunky heel, strap across the toes and round the ankle), they're a gorgeous zebra print that will go with loads and they were only £12.50 in the ASOS sale! The big earrings were Shein (and are so heavy that I'm surprised I lasted in them all night) and I completed the look with orange eyeshadow and a brownish orange lipstick.
It was another amazing day at the races and once again, we were blessed with beautiful weather. This time, our box was on the other side and it was my favourite one yet (although it was like a sauna because of the weather). The food was lovely again (even though it's now the 4th time I've had the exact same buffet), the free drinks were even better and I even managed to pick a winner in every race! But I was only betting a couple of pound at a time so I didn't exactly win enough to give up my day job, put it that way.
Then we headed into town and went straight to Penny Lane (a choice that I was pretty happy about seeing as I still had some tokens left over from last time). I think the fact that I'd been on the wine for a good few hours by this point contributed to the fact that I didn't win any of the games I played, but it was a load of fun.
Then after a couple more bars, we ended up in Anoki for some late night dinner, where I once again managed to leave a work event with more money than I set off with. Never mind the fact that work very generously spoil us with free food and drinks on these nights out and I don't have to touch my purse once, I also keep managing to win bets that leave me quids in. Shyam, our head pharmacist, is always going on about how he can handle spice because he's Indian. But after taking the bate and eating a whole green chilli, his eyes were streaming, his glasses were off, he was gargling water, rubbing his face with a napkin and all sorts. So after him getting bantered by literally everyone, Joe challenged me to try half a chilli and if I handled it better than Shyam, I'd win £50. I think my level of drunkenness probably helped stop me from noticing too much heat but a good 15 minutes later and I still hadn't even had to finish off my G&T so the cash was mine. Another successful bet completed, and another successful work night out enjoyed. Already looking forward to the next one!
