I'm feeling 22 (for the last time)
As you will know if you've been following my blog/instagram for at least a year, I like to make a big deal of my birthday. And despite this year's plans being slightly more last minute than normal, I obviously planned an entire festival of Jenni to celebrate the fact that I'll be turning the ripe old age of 23 on Thursday. So to make my last weekend as a 22 year old a fab one, I planned a bottomless brunch, leading in to a day session.
A day-to-night outfit is always kind of tricky to plan and despite the rain, I went with a summery outfit anyway. I was actually accidentally channeling Cher Horowitz vibes in this boucle skirt and bright jacket. The skirt was from Shein, as was the 'Jadore' belt that I added to it. I then went with a white lace bralet under white button up 3/4 sleeve top and added a lime green jacket over the top (thanks for the loan mum). I finished off with black accessories; black strappy heels and black floral gucci bag, jazzed up with a leopard print scarf. I didn't think that I had enough brights going on so far though (obviously) so I added bright red curtain tassel earrings and lime green eyeshadow look.
I've tried quite a few bottomless brunches now but my favourite remains the one at Revolution in Hockley. It's £25 each for the food and 2 hours of unlimited drinks, including prosecco and cocktails. Plus, the service has always been nice and fast, which is really the main make-or-break point of a bottomless brunch. Well, we certainly made the most of it! Katie, Staci and Laura all got the chicken waffles while me and Sophia got the very hipster beetroot falafel hash (which was really good). And we basically drank them out of prosecco; we managed 3 each in just our last 20 minutes so we managed quite an impressive total in the entire 2 hour window. And we finished the bottomless brunch with a little chaser; some flavoured vodka shots (shout out to Katie's sister Laura for sorting them out for us!).
I'm becoming a big fan of a day session; there are so many nice bars in Nottingham but it's severely lacking end-up places for later on so a daytime thing is perfect. After brunch, we headed to penny lane (a little because it's cool in there but largely because Laura had some tokens left over from last time). My winning streak was well and truly over (probably something to do with how drunk I was) and I lost at the camel racing game, basketball AND air hockey.
Next up we went to Tier (where it's happy hour until 8pm woo), but we were all pretty drunk by this point. Katie can't even remember us eating in there and I think the photos of me say it all.
Somewhere that was announced ages ago and has now FINALLY opened is Ginsecco at the top of the corner house and to be fair it was worth the wait because they'd done it really nicely. The venue wasn't as big as I expected but the decor was really cool, they do absolutely loads of different gins and the views over Nottingham are gorgeous (even despite the rain).
Needless to say, I was very VERY drunk by the time I got home and was feeling less than fresh on Sunday. Another great thing about day drinking though is that you have a tiny bit longer to recover and I had strategically booked my family meal for 6pm to give myself maximum recovery time. Despite the nay-sayers (my mum), I made a miraculous recovery in time to go out and went with a very fresh makeup look, striped dress, white longline jacket and white mule heels.
I don't love a chain restaurant and I normally prefer to go with one-of-a-kinds but my family are all picky eaters and a lot of the independent restaurants I liked the look of weren't open on Sundays! So I went with Piccolino because I think it has the least 'chain like' feel of them all and find that a lot of their menu is dishes that you can't get in most other places. We shared a bread board, then I had sword fish for my main (amazing) and then sorbet for dessert (aperol and blood orange flavour was a particularly good shout).
Needless to say that my birthday celebrations are far from over (obviously). I'm having a minor pit-stop tonight but there's still lots of fun to be had for the rest of the week. I may be getting older and 23 may not be an important age, but that certainly won't stop me from celebrating like the princess that I am.
