Sub-zero heroes
I don't think I've made any secret of the fact that I'm a bit of a sun worshipper. I love my summer holidays, I love getting a tan and there's nothing better in my eyes than sunbathing for hours with a good book. However, this year I'm actually switching it up a bit because I already have 3 cold weather holidays booked and a 4th in the pipeline! Don't worry, I've not sustained a head injury; I also have 3 hot weather holidays booked and a 4th in the pipeline of those too. However, my goal and love of travelling the world will hopefully see me to many places and this year's trips are mixing up the usual a bit! I'm going to Prague next month (currently -1C), Iceland in March (currently -7C) and the Baltics in April (currently -2C), so my usual holiday wardrobe of bikinis and floaty skirts won't exactly cut it. Hence why me and Katie headed out at the weekend for a spot of holiday shopping! Sensibly dressed for the occasion as always, I wore black midi dress, red heeled boots and camel tailored coat. I channeled air hostess vibes by adding a leopard print scarf, tied to the side, to really get in the holiday zone (or because it was windy and without being tied, I would've lost it).
So what did I get? Well, the first and most essential (also known as 'boring') thing on the list was base layer thermals, like you wear for skiing. Me and Katie didn't exactly look like we belonged as we wandered into Sports Direct but we got what we went in for, and for loads cheaper than we expected too! Then we did a big Primark shop; I go so rarely now that it was nice to have a proper chance to look around. Again, I started with the essentials which were tights (thick and medium) and some fluffy socks. Although they are actually called 'cosy shoe liners' on the packaging, so I don't know if you have to put them in the shoe and then your foot into both or if you can still put them on your feet first? We'll have to wait and see. I've also never been to Primark without treating myself to some new jewellery so I got another couple of pairs of earrings for £2 and £1.50 - you can't beat it! The final purchase in this picture may seem random and like it's escaped from a summer holiday haul, but the 90p (splashing the cash) flip flops are actually for getting in and out of the blue lagoon. Plus they're a pretty rose gold colour too!
Obviously cold weather calls for knitwear and despite the fact that I'm not normally a hat person, even I conceded that I might need one this year. So I got another bargain in the form of this £2 grey one with furry pom pom, which even manages to fit my ginormous head. My eye was also caught by this jumper because of its lovely colours but when I checked the hanger, the only size they had was a 2XS (a UK 4-6). I figured it looked okay though so tried it on and it fits perfectly! Bearing in mind that I'm a size 10, I have no idea how baggy they actually intended it to be, but I'm glad I gave it a try because it was only £13!
Night time outfits are the part that me and Katie are both struggling with. How do you look dressy for a night out but make it to the bars without freezing to death? We're still not 100% sure but the approach I'm taking is thick black tights, chunky boots and then a mix of skirts and dresses. This leopard print pinafore style dress was only £13 and will look great over a black roll neck top.
I love the aviator style coats that are everywhere at the moment and I had considered buying one but up until now, hadn't been willing to fork out the £50 that everywhere was selling them for (even my reliable bargain website, SheIn). So when I saw this beauty in Primark, I knew I had to have it. It was one of only two left on the hangers and the universe was clearly smiling down on me because it was my size. It had no label but the stand said £30 down to £15, although I took it to the till not really knowing what to expect because I thought it might've been shoved in the wrong place. But yep, it really was only £15! It's the nicest quality, has a colour palette that will go with everything and should even be fairly waterproof if we get rain so I reckon I have my night time coat now. As for my coat in the day, that was another beautiful little bargain. I didn't get it on Saturday's shopping trip though, I actually got it on eBay. It's a Zara coat, never worn and only cost me £13! I don't know where the old Jenni has gone but I am loving all these bargains.
Then after a busy day and a miserable trek through the rain as we tried (and repeatedly failed) to a find a restaurant for dinner, we finally ended up with pizza, pasta and plenty of wine at Wildwood. A very successful Saturday if I do say so myself.
