Gone but not forgotten

Okay so this was a very 'me'thing to do and so it probably won't surprise you one bit. When I worked at Potter Clarkson, I was on the social committee so I got to plan all the staff events (christmas party etc) and one that I was really excited about was a boat party with the princess river cruises, which was booked for the first week in august. But obviously, earlier this year I started looking for new jobs and so when I found one and handed my notice in late-June, I worked out that I'd have already left by the time it was planned for. But I'm not one to let something so small get in my way and I'm a big believer in 'you don't ask, you don't get'. So the day after, I asked my boss' boss if I could still go and he said seeing as I'd been such a big part of the social committee and had helped to organise it, they'd make an exception to the rule of not inviting ex-employees to events. All in a days work! So on Friday, I got ready in floral skirt, black bandeau, blush bodysuit and lace sandals and then went to work (at my new job, obvs) before hot-footing it to colwick at 5 o'clock.

To say I only left two weeks ago, it was weird how long it felt since I'd seen everyone. There were even new people there who I obviously didn't recognise and when I got chatting to them, they looked a little confused that I no longer worked there but was still on the boat! The boat itself was like an Amsterdam canal one with a long inside section with tables and seating, plus a bar (an open one woo) and then open-air sections at the back and front (prime titanic re-enactment spot). After we set sail and got some much-needed air flowing through the place (it was boiling), we started with food. It was a BBQ buffet with gammon steaks and grilled pineapple, tomato chicken, corn on the cob, rice, salad and bread and butter. I think we were all surprised how nice the food was, to say it was cooked on a boat! Then we spent the next few hours draining the open bar and dancing (we had an on-board DJ and everything) and it was so good to catch up with everyone (especially my team, Joe, Rachael and Dalal, who I've missed loads). Plus we got to go past riverside festival and saw some really pretty views as the sun set.

Obviously, us being us, the night didn't end there. We headed in to town to enjoy some very expensive cocktails (no happy hour at Revs de Cuba). I also loved that they served our bottle of wine in a copper bath tub. I'm so so glad that I managed to wangle my way into still going on the event because I had the best time. I may have left but they can't get rid of me that easily. See you all at the Christmas party guys (joking)(or maybe I'm not?)
