Subtlety is my strong suit

I love this time of year. The days get longer, the weather gets warmer (for the most part) and all the spring/summer stuff starts to creep in to the shops. Although we all know that florals for spring is a cliché (it's not exactly groundbreaking, in the words of Miranda Priestly), it's a tough one to avoid since they're so pretty. But florals don't always have to be bright or in your face, it's easy to subtly weave them in to your wardrobe.

Obviously spring is all about lighter colours and pastel palettes but my love for black runs deep and so it's prominent in my wardrobe whatever the season! I have a few of these style of tops and I love them; 3/4 sleeves are my favourite, the crop is a great length for high waisted skirts and trousers, and I love the mesh and crochet detailing. I paired this one with pink pencil skirt and then added another splash of florals with embroidered heeled boots, before completing my trio of florals with black embroidered coat.

Of course, florals can be as subtle or as prominent as you like. I bet you barely noticed them in this outfit. I'm obsessed with mustard at the moment and so I wore these mustard trousers with white shirt, black skinny belt and black trench coat. And then, feeling like my outfit was a bit too plain, I added these strappy floral heels which were amazingly only £9 (but are super hard to walk in).

And of course, the weather isn't all that reliable, so despite the fact that it's officially Spring, it was snowing a few days ago so coat options have to considered at all times. In this case, I went with another black and pink outfit in black culottes (one of my faves because they're not wide leg), stripy crop top with embroidered roses and burgundy faux fur coat. Although there are two floral aspects to this outfit, my favourite is definitely the shoes. I love how dainty and feminine these floral embroidered shoes are, and I'm always surprised by how much I like them when I usually prefer a pointed toe over a round one. I then finished the look with the perfect lipstick (as I always do) and wore Captive by MAC.
