Feeling like a foodie
I don't think it's any secret that I'm a bit of a foodie. I probably eat out atleast 3 times a week and my instagram feed is probably filled with more photos of food than anything else. But last week was a particularly foodie one, kicking off on Wednesday when I hosted cheese and wine night for me and the girls. This sort of food (picky food as I call it) is a favourite of mine and I always pride myself in putting together an excellent cheese board, with the centre piece being my specialty; camembert hedgehog bread. It's pretty self explanatory but I included some step by step photos in case you wanted to make one (and Katie requested them)! I brush the whole lot with a mix of olive oil, italian herbs and garlic, and then finish the cheese with chilli flakes and rosemary. Along with my signature dish, I also made a cheese board of mozzarella, chilli cheddar (my fave), emmental and red leicester and a meat board (well, a meat tiered slate plate) of chorizo, proscuitto and two different kinds of salami and then finished the spread with olives, pickle, crackers, extra bread and olive oil and balsamic. And of course, plenty of wine! It was amazing, even if I do say so myself.
Then on to Thursday lunchtime and despite having plenty of leftovers from the night before, I didn't need them because we were having a buffet at work where the caterers come in and we get to drink wine over an extra long lunch break. On the menu was roast pork with crackling and stuffing, chicken in garlic, tomato and chilli, vegetarian chilli with rice and then salad, coleslaw, pasta salad, nachos, baked potatoes and bread rolls. As the organiser of the event, I got to pick the menu items and I have to say I picked very well!
And as if the lunch wasn't enough, me and my grandma went out for a meal on Thursday evening too! I keep a list of restaurants that I want to try on my phone and Belgo has been on there for a while now. So when I received a 50% off food email, I figured fate was telling me it was time to try it! First of all, I love the outside of the building and all the fairy lights, and the decor inside is really nice and very European too. There's a big focus on seafood (mussels in particular) on the menu so my grandma ordered fish and chips and I ordered pan fried cod with butter beans and chorizo and it was amazing! The quality of the fish was so high. We were really full but speculoos was a running theme on the dessert menu (which we both love) so we decided to share a piece of cheesecake and it was just as amazing. Although I do still miss La Tasca (the buildings former resident), I can highly recommend Belgo.
I basically barely cooked at all last week because then on Friday, it was curry night at work so after escaping early for a few drinks at the pub, we headed to MemSaab for dinner. And it was actually my first ever curry out (which noone could believe when I said it) and I'll definitely be going for another. I had paneer tikka to start and then lamb rogan josh for main and both were really nice! Plus the restaurant was super cute. I made sure not to eat too much though so I had the stamina to go out afterwards. And it turned out to be a wise decision. Over the night, I managed 2 pints of cider, half a bottle of wine, 5 double gin and lemonades and half a bottle of prosecco and me and Joe were still in the Bierkeller at half 1. Not bad to say I'd been up since 5!
Then over the weekend, I went completely the opposite way! After all my eating out, I didn't eat again until Sunday evening. This wasn't intentional or part of some crazy diet, but I was feeling so sick and hungover all of Saturday (caused by all the above mentioned drinks) that I couldn't eat anything, then I started drinking again at about 7 on Saturday night and then I went out to get my next tattoo around Sunday lunchtime and I forgot to eat before that too! But I started this week right again, because tonight me and Laura went to Blue Monday at Yo Sushi (where all the dishes are cheaper than normal) and it was amazing!
