My big fat greek weekend
I'm pretty proud of myself for resisting the urge to name this 'my big fat greekend' - that's a pun too far even for me. Well, in keeping with my monthly holiday quota, on Saturday (technically still September) I flew off once again for a long weekend in Crete, this one being for some mother-daughter time. It was roughly a 4 hour flight which may seem a fair distance just for a few days but it flew by (okay I couldn't resist that one) thanks to a book I was engrossed in and a film I had downloaded. We started as we meant to go on with cocktails and loads of food at the airport and I wore black jeans, gingham monochrome top with crochet detailing and black lace up sandals. Because we hadn't flown until the afternoon and then had to add on 2 hours in time difference, we ended up getting to our hotel at about twenty past 10 and given our all inclusive bar was only on until 11, we dumped our bags and got straight to it with cocktails, mixed drinks and shots (well it would be rude not to).
It had been raining as we arrived the night before so despite the cloud the next day, it was better than it was! We had already checked the weather forecast and knew that our first day would be cloudy so we planned a trip in to the old town of Rethymnon. Not only was it beautiful and quaint, but funnily enough it was built by the Venetians and me and mum visited Venice earlier this year as well. We also had the most amazing ice cream while we were there, coconut is a favourite of both of ours! For our day of exploring, I wore black halter neck bodysuit, orange and black striped culottes and tan sandals.
Because it was a weekend to wind down, I started my Monday morning in a much better way than usual - with a back/neck massage. I really should go to get them more often because oh my god, I felt so much more relaxed afterwards. Sitting in a desk chair all day every day is clearly not good for back muscle knots. Then in the afternoon, we headed down to the beach; the weather was much brighter than the day before but still not scorching so I decided to wear a one-piece. I am still obsessed with this marble print number from ASOS and love that you can wear it 2 different ways (normal or with the straps crossed over). Then we got ready for dinner and I wore this black floral printed playsuit from new look - I love the flared sleeves, choker neck and the primary colour print. Then we got the drinks lined up! Mum was being a bloke with big jugs of beer and I was working my way through the cocktail menu!
Then following the pattern from our time there so far, Tuesday was the hottest day yet and it was finally super sunny! So we spent the day round our pool (we had two to choose from) soaking it in before going back to the now-October weather of England. I wore this red river island bikini that I've had for years now but am still obsessed with. Well actually, the top is the river island bikini but the bottoms are a pair I got from missguided because the original pair that are actually supposed to go with it, are high waisted and therefore not as good for optimum tanning (method in the madness).
Then once we were all packed up, we waved goodbye to Crete from the back of a Mercedes (we booked a fancy taxi to ride in style) as we watched the sun set and got a tour round the island thrown in for good measure. Next stop on the jenni-goes-on-a-million-holidays-this-year tour: Barcelona!
