50 facts about my fabulous self
Although I try and put my personality across in every single blog post, I have done quite a few getting-to-know-me style posts now and for any of you long-term readers, I have actually done a 50 facts about me before, waaay back at the beginning of 2015. However, reading back through it now, it's all quite superficial stuff that barely scrapes the surface. Stuff like what date my birthday is, what my favourite colour is and what phone I have. And because I'm not a fan of small talk, I decided I would stop having it with you and actually get on to the real stuff.
1. I have really bad OCD. Nothing like "I have to switch the light on and off 15 times", but I'm a total organisation-freak. My wardrobe is arranged by style of clothes and every item has a specific place it belongs because I don't like 2 things the same colour to be next to each other (which is pretty tricky because I have a lot of black tops). My lipsticks and nail varnishes are arranged firstly by brand and then by colour and I know exactly where each one is without picking them up to see the name underneath.
2. I love wearing heels for many reasons; they're pretty, they make your legs look slimmer, they make your feet look smaller. But a big reason I love heels is because being taller than other people is very empowering. People having to look up to you rather than you looking up to them subconsciously makes you feel very important.
3. I trained myself to like wine. When I turned 18, I realised that while vodka is a perfectly great drink for a night out, it's not very sociable to have at meals or casual drinks etc. So I decided to start drinking wine. On my 18th birthday I had champagne (start with the best), then went to prosecco, then white wine, then rose and now I'm almost there with red wine. Funnily enough I did the same with tea because I didn't want to be the odd one out in an office job.
4. I wouldn't say I have a fear of heights as such, maybe more of a fear of falling? I really don't like to be stood at the edge of anything - rivers, mountains, bridges - whatever it is, I like to be stood a nice safe distance away.
5. I am the most stubborn person you will ever meet and I can't stand to be wrong. It probably stings more because I barely ever am, but my friends absolutely love it on the rare occasion that they get to prove me wrong (and even then, I still don't admit it).
6. I am a typical Gemini in every sense of the word. The sign of the twins, I have a split personality and can either be the nicest person you've ever met or the worst. I am also expressive, quick-witted, superficial, sociable, devious, curious and a terrible gossip.
7. I am an excellent present buyer. I'm the type of person who will listen when you say you want something and store it my head for your birthday 6 months later. And of course, the true sign of a good gift is one that you want to keep for yourself, so I always make sure there's an aspect of that too.
8. I sometimes feel like I'm in a movie. Like certain times when you're walking down the street with your friends and it really feels like there should be a sassy soundtrack playing in the background.
9. I love sitting around in a towel for atleast 10 years after I get out of the bath or shower. And you're lying if you say you don't do it too.
10. Even though I know a lot of people thought I would regret it, not going to uni is still one of the best choices I ever made. While my friends have been stressing about 12,000 word dissertations, I go to work every day at a well-paid job that I love and I get to leave it there when I finish at 5 (no homework or all-nighters for me). Not only that but I am virtually debt-free (although a £1,000 overdraft is nothing compared to the £27,000 I would have had if I had gone to uni). I'm not only happy in my job because I love it, but I'm happy because it's proved to everyone that doubted me that you don't need a degree to succeed.
11. I am pretty greedy and I always want the best of both worlds. In my family, we have a thing called the "Jenni option". If it was a choice between A and B, I would always chose both. And I would always get both too!
12. It may seem over confident or slightly naive, but I 100% believe that I will be successful in life. Not only because I want to be but because, with expensive taste like mine, I need to be!
13. The TV characters I would most liken myself to would be a mix of Blair Waldorf (for her fashion, sass and manipulation), Spencer Hastings (for her leadership and quick thinking) and Monica Geller (for her OCD and competitiveness).
14. I believe in love at first sight... When it comes to clothes! Like that feeling that some people apparently get when they meet someone and just know that they're supposed to be together - that's the feeling I get when I online shop! Not with everything, but certain statement shoes or going out dresses can really make your heart skip a beat.
15. I'm a really good judge of character and I can always tell when someone is lying. I would definitely say I'm good at reading people...
16. But that's probably partly because I'm a good liar myself. It takes one to know one I guess.
17. Despite the fact that I've got much better as I've gotten older, I would still say I'm quite a picky eater. I'm one of those people who will say they don't like something when they've never tried it; if I don't like the look or thought of it then I won't go near it!
18. I have a photographic memory which is both a blessing and a curse. It means I always do amazingly in exams, I remember important stuff off the top of my head and when I online shop I can fill in the credit card information without needing to get my purse out. However, it also means that I remember all the embarrassing things I do when I'm drunk and that I can sometimes look like a psycho for remembering every tiny detail from something that happened years ago when no one else knows what I'm talking about.
19. I know everything. It may seem like a bold statement to make but I make it my life's mission to know everything. I'm a top gossiper so I know everything socially, I'm always listening and tuning in to conversations around me (even while I'm also on the phone) and at work I make sure I know everything about everything (so much so that my team have nicknamed me 'the oracle' and instead of saying 'google it' they 'jenni it').
20. I wish that all 2 for 1 cocktail deals were mix and match. Why do I want 2 the same?
21. I can't really ride a bike. I learnt when I was younger but I was never very good and it turns out the saying is false - you really can forget how to ride a bike. I think it's the fact that balance is such a big part of it; I have virtually none of that.
22. I can't accept failure. I don't like to think that there's anything I can't do and so I don't take it well when I fail at something.
23. Most girls talk about having 'bad hair days' but mine basically always looks the same. I have 'bad eyelash days' instead - your mascara going right or wrong can make or break your make up I think!
24. I never want to buy a house. Well if I somehow end up super rich where I can just pay up front then yes because it makes more sense financially. But I don't want to be one of those people who save up for 10 years just to get a deposit together so you can say you own a house, and miss out on loads of fun stuff in the mean time. I'd rather travel the world and enjoy nice meals out and go on adventures. There was an old couple paired up on First Dates the other week and he had lived a very settled life (lived in the same town he was born in, married for 20 or 30 years, had a few kids and a couple of grand kids and spent his weekends playing football with them or going on walks) and she had lived a very extraordinary life (travelled the world, enjoyed the theatre, lived in Asia, spent her weekends going dancing). I don't ever want to end up in a life like his; I want a life like hers.
25. I'm a big fan of instant gratification. I want what I want and I want it now. I'm not one for waiting around or being patient, even if it means the pay off is slightly greater in the long run.
26. I get a massive sense of achievement whenever I complete the simplest of DIY tasks. There's just something about banging a nail in to a wall that makes me feel like the accomplished, independent woman I am.
27. I hate anyone with noisy bodily functions. If you're eating loudly, kissing loudly, coughing loudly or breathing loudly then there is a 100% chance that I don't like you.
28. I don't believe in worrying. Not at all. I think you just have to face things as they come because by worrying, you're only hurting yourself. If you worry about something and it doesn't happen then you've hurt yourself for no reason. If you worry about something and it does happen then you worrying about it didn't stop it anyway. You really don't stand to gain anything so I tend not bother; I deal with stuff if and when it happens.
29. I love ordering two dishes in a restaurant. Not in a super fat, greedy way but like when you order something, someone orders something different and then you each have half of each. Restaurant menus have so many amazing sounding things on them that it would be a shame to only try one. PS. this is also probably why I love tapas so much.
30. I've never failed a job interview. That's not to say that I've got everything I've applied for; I've applied for countless things that I've never heard back from. But in any case where they've actually met me, I've got the job.
31. I'm proud (and also slightly surprised) of my strong work ethic, given that I've always grown up spoilt. Which is probably more of a testament to the way my mum and dad raised me than it is a reflection of me. Although I've always grown up wanting for nothing, I've seen how hard my mum and dad have worked to be able to give me that life and I intend to do the same.
32. I love scrap booking things that inspire me. When I buy my countless fashion magazines each month, I don't just read them but I tear out anything and everything that catches my eye. Whether that's an outfit, a new nail colour or an interesting piece of furniture, I keep it all. I now have 14 scrapbooks and I'm running out of places to put them!
33. There is a saying that goes "someone who's nice to the CEO but not nice to the waiter is not a nice person" and I 100% agree. I don't particularly get affected by status or hierarchy; something I didn't realise about myself until I started working at the law firm I'm at now. I talk to everyone with the same level of respect whether they're the cleaner or the managing partner. Treat people how you'd like to be treated after all!
34. Literature quotes make me happy. It's hard to explain to someone who isn't one of these people but there's just something about beautiful words, put together in just the right way that is very satisfying. I can literally waste hours on Pinterest looking through quotes about life, love and the universe.
35. It really annoys me when people post before-and-after photos but put them the wrong way around. The before photo should go on the left and the after photo should go on the right - always.
36. I'm an excellent proofreader because I've got a really good eye for detail. And also I'm super pedantic and like things a certain way so I'm good at picking up on things.
37. I can't stand platform heels (pun intended). There's just something very childish about a heel with a platform at the front and there is no possible way to walk elegantly in them. Go as high as you can but only on the heel - leave the front alone.
38. I don't embarrass easily whatsoever but my face would tell you a different story because I blush really easily. Which is really annoying because it's like your face is giving you away when you have nothing to hide!
39. Although I love eating out, I don't like pub food. I'll go for it if it's what everyone else wants to do or because it's cheap and cheerful but I don't really enjoy it and would never suggest a pub if I was planning a meal out. Even gastro-pubs are erring on the side of caution.
40. I love receiving gifts that show just how well someone knows me. I would rather someone get me a cute little gimmick present that I love so much I can't believe I don't have it already, than a really expensive gift that I wouldn't have chosen for myself. It's about paying attention to the little things.
41. I know all the words to loads of songs, films and TV shows. Like I could probably recite all 10 seasons of Friends word for word. And sometimes I know the words to songs that I didn't even realise I knew!
42. I honestly think bikini shopping is the worst. Barely anyone is the same size on the top and bottom and yet shops insist on selling them as sets and they're always shown on models with perfect abs who no one looks like in real life. Nightmare.
43. I think that messaging without emojis is horrible. It's a very millennial thing to say but I feel like it's really hard to convey the right tone and emotions without using them, and people who don't use them are very strange in my book.
44. I take about 10 years to photograph my food, which leads to lots of moaning from the people I'm with because they just want to dig in. Sorry guys but if I don't instagram it then did it even happen?
45. Don't ask why but I always prefer to be an even-numbered age. It seems odd but I always seem to have better years when I'm an even age. Although having said that, 21 has been pretty amazing so far.
46. I'm not a confrontational person at all but I am a very opinionated one and I will express my opinions to anyone who'll listen. I'm also argumentative and even when I realise halfway through that I'm wrong, I'll keep arguing that I'm right anyway.
47. I'm a very matter-of-fact person. Emotion doesn't come in to things all that often and I have a knack of looking at things very objectively. When it comes to the whole 'head or heart' thing, I would say I follow my head but I make sure to take my heart with me. In other words, I make the smart choice but I make sure it still makes me happy.
48. I am a firm believer that everyone should work in customer service at one point in their lives. Not only does it set you up with a load of very valuable life skills, but it also makes you a more empathetic and understanding person when your food is 15 minutes late or you have to wait for ages to get served. We're all only human after all.
49. I get the worst hangovers known to man (or woman). If you're the kind of person who can get absolutely slaughtered on Friday night and then bounce out of bed and go for a run on Saturday morning, I hate you.
50. I love guessing games. If someone says 'guess what', I will want to guess until I get it. And equally, if I say 'guess what', I expect the other person to do the same. If you play along then that's big brownie points as far as I'm concerned!
