A red hot week

Us Brits are weird. There is a reason that we have a reputation as a nation of complainers and that's because we literally can and do moan about anything and everything. We don't like it when it rains, we don't like it when it's cold and as much as we might think we do, we don't like it when it's hot either. If the temperature is between 22C and 25C then that's fine but anything above or below that is simply unacceptable. As has been the story of this week. We've been experiencing a heat wave in the UK for the past week or so and basically, the country can't cope. I think it's probably because we do get so much shit weather that our buildings, wardrobes and lifestyles are simply built for the cold and so nothing seems to work when it's hot. And we certainly don't want to! When the sun comes out, we all scramble for the nearest beer garden and it seems totally unfair that we still have to go work each day and look longingly out the window. I personally love the heat; I love hot countries, I love getting a tan and I have a giant ceiling fan that makes sleeping in hot weather a breeze (pun obviously intended). The only struggle I have (besides getting on a packed, sweaty tram against my better judgement) is what to wear! Dressing for summer is easy right? A pair of denim shorts and a vest top and you're good to go? When you work in a law firm, not so much! So this week has been particularly challenging because I've been trying to dress for the weather while still dressing work-appropriately AND avoiding any clothes that I want to take to New York (which is where I'll be on my way to, by the time you're reading this). So for exhibit A, I decided to go for a shirt dress because they're a thin, fairly loose fabric but still stylish. I love this one from new look in this rusty red colour and I kept things simple by wearing my gucci belt and black lace up heels (public desire) with it and then finishing with Ginger lip kit by Kylie cosmetics.

And in what was a slight accident; that became the colour scheme for the rest of my week. I am obsessed with these bright coral red trousers; I always think that New Look trousers just fit so perfectly. Obviously this outfit was not for work (I was going out for dinner and drinks with Laura) so I wore it with a black bandeau bralet (PLT), black strappy caged sandals (New Look) and gold body chain which I had kind of forgot about (because it's not exactly like you can wear them in winter) and I'm really glad I've rediscovered it. This time, I finished with a bright coral lip butter by Revlon in the shade Tutti Frutti.

I always tend to go for a self-imposed casual Friday at work (basically noone has said this is a thing but it's what I go with anyway) which for most people means jeans but for me, it means I risk a shorter skirt than usual. This weather is simply too hot for pencil skirts or trousers though so I'm running out of options at the minute! So seeing as Thursday this week was my Friday, I stuck with the same dress-down mentality as well as sticking with my red colour scheme for the week. This rust-red skirt (new look) has been a staple in my wardrobe for a long time now and I just love the fit of more of an A-line skirt rather than a tight-fitting mini skirt. I finally moved away from my red-and-black theme though by wearing it with a white wrap blouse (also new look). Well, sort of; I did still add black belt and black and white heels (again, both new look). I was going to go with Taupe lipstick but it was already packed so I went a shade darker with Persistence instead. And so after concluding a hot and humid week in the UK, I'm off to have a hot and humid week in New York instead! I probably won't be writing any blog posts until I'm back because although I will have my laptop with me, I'm only there for 5 days and so probably won't have time. But to see what I get up to in the meantime, be sure you're following me on instagram @jenni_aimee and add me on snapchat jenniaimee!
