Pretty in pink

Pink is my absolute favourite colour in all it's forms. Blush pink, raspberry pink, electric pink; you name it, I love it. And because of that, I thought I'd put together a little 'ways to wear' type of post. And in the interest of total honesty, I've also been slacking with my blog so much lately that I have a backlog of photos and as the weather gets warmer, I soon won't really be able to use them. So it's a case of two birds, one stone.

I thought we'd go with a bright, brighter, brightest sort of theme and so I'm starting at the light end of the spectrum. I think that blush pink is one of the easiest colours to wear in the world. Obviously black is the easiest, but blush pink comes a close second. With grey you can risk looking dull, brights can be hard to pull off, nude can make you look naked if you're not careful and white invites a whole load of what-underwear-can-I-wear-without-it-showing-through drama. Whereas blush pink suits everyone and goes with pretty much all other colours. I think that's probably why this topshop jacket is my favourite one. And considering I have 26 coats and jackets, I'd say that's a pretty high honour. I'm not always a fan of matchy-matchy outfits because it can be overkill sometimes but in this case it just worked. This low back top (new look) and these pointed toe, lace up court heels (missguided) are both a perfect match for the jacket. Obviously I would look a bit weird in head-to-toe of the same colour, so I went with this light brown pencil skirt and then finished the look with Whirl lipstick by MAC.

Taking things a shade darker this time in more of a raspberry shade. In case you hadn't noticed yet, I am obsessed with these ASOS pencil skirts. And although I now have it in about 7 different shades, this one is still my firm favourite. Because I was wearing such a statement jacket (miss selfridge), I kept the rest of my outfit very simple with black long sleeve top and caged black heels (both new look) and then finished it with Lolita liquid lipstick by Kat Von D. On a side note, how cute is it that Bella can now be seen in the background of loads of my blog photos? She's clearly just as much of a poser as her mom.

And finally, the most daring of them all. A while ago, I was totally off bright colours and couldn't imagine myself wearing something like this whatsoever. But now that summer feels like it's so close you can taste it, this colour is my latest obsession. And these new look trousers literally fit like a dream! And if you thought that the trousers were amazing then you ain't seen nothing yet - look at the shoes! I love all things embroidered at the minute and so these shoes are a massive yes from me (although I thought a round toe would be more comfortable than a pointed toe but it turns out I was very, very wrong). I kept the rest simple with black top, black jacket and Lyin' King liquid lipstick by Colourpop.

On another note...

I didn't want to dedicate a whole post to this because I didn't think it was worthy of that but I couldn't let it go unsaid. I've just read Sarah Ashcroft's Cosmopolitan article and I'm seriously wondering what she was trying to achieve through it? Is she trying to damage her own career? And because I've seen a lot of Sarah Ashcroft bashing on social media and then a lot of Sarah Ashcroft basher-bashing to counteract it, it feels like a whole lot of hypocrisy about the world that is blogging and how it's supposed to be all about girl power. So I'm not writing to add to the angry twitter mob but more because I'm a very opinionated person and my blog has always been my platform to say whatever I like (whether you like it or not)...

Cosmo have now changed the article but I think it's a bit late for that. The main comment that everyone seems angry about is 'there's no room for other bloggers' which actually, I thought was quite a true statement that maybe came across the wrong way. Everyone is a blogger now whether that's as a hobby or a career and the blogging world is getting fuller and fuller. However, so is every other industry. A new Missguided-style online shop pops up every other day and yet it hasn't stopped so many of them from hitting it big; Boohoo, PLT, Miss Pap, Oh Polly. Because for every new blogger that wants to work with brands, there will be new brands popping up that want to work with them. And if everyone was put off because there were already people killing it in the industry, then we would have no actors, singers, DJs, comedians or anything else. Along the same lines, she also said that girls in the blogging world are 'fake' because they're all in competition for the same jobs so they can't possibly be genuine people right? That's like saying that none of the people on your course at uni can be genuine friends either because there'll be going for the same jobs as you come graduation. It's simply ridiculous and actually, those who are in the same industry can have more in common and more to talk about than people who do something completely different to you sometimes.

The main comment that annoyed me though is one that has since been removed. She said 'sometimes I go on people's instagrams and I'm like 'is this my page?', the only way to stand out is to be original, you can't just copy what I'm doing because I'm already doing it'. Please look at the instagram feeds in these photos and play spot the difference. These accounts could genuinely all be run by the same person. I don't understand how Sarah Ashcroft thinks that what she has created is in any way different or unique? It's like being mad at someone for copying your outfit because you're both wearing black jeans. I am a confident person and I admire confident people, and you definitely have to be a certain level of confident (and vain) to take and upload photos of yourself every day. But to claim that you pretty much invented blogging and how-dare-anyone-be-so-rude-as-to-copy-you? Well that's just down right narcissistic.

  1. I too love pink (my favourites are Barbie pink and bubblegum pink) - and you look amazing in all of these OOTDs. I love that you style contrasting complementary colours in your outfits. You look stunning showcasing those Asos pencil-skirts!
Your analysis of the dynamic between all the new Fbloggers Bbloggers Lbloggers (fashion beauty and lifestyle bloggers) and the sponsors who seek exposure through them is interesting. I'm not on Instagram (and now only upload my photos to my blogs or to Twitter, but I do occasionally read posts about other bloggers' strange experiences on Instagram. All my best wishes to you for your increasing popularity there and elsewhere.
