The art of afternoon tea

So for anyone who follows me on instagram or any smarties who know I'm not quite this tanned any more will know that I went for this afternoon tea about 2 and a half weeks ago. Since then, I've been to Amsterdam and Laura has gone back to Sheffield for her final year of uni so this blog post is not exactly what you'd describe as current. However, it is one that I felt was still worth writing because this afternoon tea was one of the best I've ever been to! I'd seen the one at Colwick hall advertised online but with it being out near Nottingham Racecourse, you can only really get to it by driving so we needed to plan it on a day when Laura had the car and we literally could not have planned it more perfectly. The sun was shining so we sat outside overlooking all the beautiful grounds and the fountain and had the most amazing afternoon tea (with wine, naturally); seriously how cute are the cakes! Now I go to afternoon tea A LOT (I'm just so British) and I can honestly say this was one of the best - I'd definitely recommend it!

Even though it was mid-September by this point, I'd just got back from America 2 days before so I was still very much in a summer mind set. Plus I had to get my final wear out of my really summery clothes while it was still warm enough to. So I went with these scarf print shorts which are really great for something like this because they're quite baggy but still quite smart and tailored so they don't make you look like you've walked in from the beach OR a night out. I paired them with a simple white lace up shirt and then added my new favourite shoes and bag (both from Aldo) which I pretty much haven't taken off since. I finished the look with river island sunnies and Anastasia Beverly Hill liquid lipstick in Ashton.
