April favourites
I don't do these favourite blog posts very often (as you know) but this month I just felt like I really needed to do one because there have been some things that I've been head over heels for. Technically this first one is a bit of a cheat because it's not something new that I've tried but it's something that I did finally re-buy last month. Yes it is of course Taupe lipstick by MAC which is my all time favourite lipstick - I'm yet to find one that beats it! It's matte, it's somewhere between brown and a warm nude and it lasts all day; perfect.
I don't do book reviews very often despite the fact that I read a lot but this book was incredible. It's basically the journey of Eva and Jim and the different paths their lives could take based on one seemingly insignificant moment. In 1958, depending on whether Eva is riding her bike and swerves to avoid a dog, is riding her bike and gets a punctured tyre or is riding her bike and falls off it, both of their lives go in completely different directions. So there's 3 possible versions of reality and each one follows the lives of the two characters over the next 55 years, flicking between versions and between the perspective of Eva and Jim through the chapters. So it gets very confusing trying to remember where you left them in the last chapter of that version and children are born at different times with different names to different people so it might be worth making a note. I'm really in to my quotes (as you'll know if you follow me on pinterest) and this book reminded me of a few in particular; "Our lives are defined by opportunities. Even the ones we miss", "There are all types of love in this world but never the same love twice", "What's meant to be will always find a way", "And I'd choose you; in a hundred lifetimes, in a hundred worlds, in any version of reality, I'd find you and I'd choose you", "One day whether you are 14, 28 or 65, you will stumble upon someone who will start a fire in you that cannot die. However, the saddest most awful truth you will ever come to find is they are not always with whom we spend our lives" and ""Well look who I ran in to" crowed Coincidence, "Please" flirted Fate "this was meant to be"". What I love about this book too is that it doesn't narrate a small section of a character's life and then end on happily ever after. It goes from start to finish, with all the bumps along the way and (although I wasn't happy with the way version 1 went when they were both about 50 years old) each version is ended perfectly. Basically it's the most confusing, thought-provoking and beautiful book that you just have to read. You'll especially love it if you loved Sliding Doors, One Day or The Butterfly Effect.
Right so for any non literary lovers, I have another beauty favourite. This spoolie brush might actually be the best thing I've ever bought. It's by Morphe so it's really cheap and it's amazing for grooming your eyebrows and making sure any product (whether that's powder or pencil) is brushed through evenly. I haven't actually used the liner end yet but if it's anything as good as the spoolie end then it gets a 10/10 from me.
As an avid Disney fan, I am so happy that they've decided to remake all the old classics into live action movies. And while Cinderella and Maleficent were both really good, The Jungle Book was absolutely amazing. Just the fact that Mowgli basically acted the whole thing alone as all the scenery and jungle animals were CGI'd in post-production is pretty impressive. The classic songs were in there too and I actually think I loved it even more than the 1967 animated version because they changed the ending to a more fitting one. A definite must-see.
Another thing that you've already seen featured in my recent beauty haul post are these nail polishes from the new Color show blushed nudes collection by Maybelline. I got shades Mod Mauve and Crimson Flush and I've tried them out and love them both! I currently have Crimson Flush on my toe nails and Mod Mauve on my finger nails.
Just recently I seem to have a slight red velvet obsession. So clearly the healthy, clean eating life style is going well. I don't understand how anyone can not like red velvet - I can't decide what's better the fluffy texture or the cream cheese frosting?
