5 makeup sins I commit

Forgive me Father for I have sinned. Well, according to most people anyway. But what I find odd is how so many bloggers and YouTubers are like 'I'm no professional make up artist' (which always reminds me of when teachers used to draw on the white board and warn you that they were "no artist" first) and yet they do everything flawlessly and they own £200 brush sets and spend £40 on foundation. Now I'm never going to be one of those people who lust after the Anastasia Beverly Hills glow kit which is £39 for 4 highlighters which look almost identical; I'll happily spend £100 on shoes or a nice coat but to me that's just not justifiable spending just to get shimmery cheekbones. And also I'm fundamentally lazy; people often say how weird is it that I don't wear foundation but it's not some kind of statement about society or something - I'm just too lazy to add any extra time to my morning routine to bother applying it. So for any other lazy people out there, don't worry you're not alone!

1. I use make up wipes

If you type 'skincare routine' into YouTube, you will find 394,000 videos of people doing what you're actually supposed to; scrubbing and cleansing and toning and moisturising. Despite make up wipes supposedly not getting your make up off properly (you're meant to use actual make up remover on cotton pads or something), I find that they work as well as anything else and it takes literally 5 seconds to get your make up off - plus they're really cheap! I always go with the Simple ones because they're kind to skin.

2. I fill in my eyebrows with a pencil

I actually started filling in my eyebrows before eyebrows became THE thing that we all cared about. I've got naturally blonde eyebrows (even though I'm a natural brunette?!) so I started pencilling my brows in like 7 years ago and back then there was hardly any choice when it came to brow products and now that there is, I can't be bothered to try anything new. Well when my Rimmel brow pencil is £2.99 and the ABH dip brow pomade that everyone loves is £15, it doesn't make much financial sense to swap does it? Also coming back to the time thing, I do fill my brows in with shadows sometimes but it takes so much longer that it's not something I can be bothered to do everyday. Although lately I have started using Benefit gimme brow over the top of my pencil to keep them looking on fleek all day (on fleek used ironically here).

3. I apply false lashes with my fingers

Any tutorial you could ever watch will all tell you the same thing - apply false eyelashes with tweezers. But nope, I apply mine with my fingers which seems like it should give you less precision but I've always found it to work better. I guess that's what it's all about, finding what works best for you. FYI, these are my favourite lashes of all time and the ones I always wear for nights out.

4. I use an eyeshadow applicator

Most people would say we should have left these in 2008 but despite me owning a £70 set of Zoeva brushes, I still use one of these. Well for my daily make up anyway, on a night out I do my make up properly with brushes. But I don't have time every day to slowly build up colours and shades so I find that one of these applicators is better for packing the eyeshadow on and because I do my eyeshadow in a cat eye shape, it's much easier and more precise than a brush (FYI, I use a brush for my base colour and then use one of these applicators for the outer corner shade). Don't get me wrong, I'm not some kind of crazy person. I wouldn't suggest applying with one of these and then leaving it, I obviously blend it out with a brush afterwards.

5. I curl my lashes with mascara on

As someone with chronically straight lashes, I have to go the extra mile to get some curl in them which means curling them with mascara on. Everyone would warn you against doing this because it "pulls your lashes out" or something but I think it works really well. I curl my lashes, then apply mascara, then wait for that coat to dry (very important step; don't try curling lashes with wet mascara on them because you'll just end up in a mess!) and then curl again and then add another coat of mascara. Works a treat and lashes stay curled all day! FYI, I'm currently using Rimmel day 2 night mascara for the first coat (the 'volume' part, I don't ever bother using the 'lengthen' part of it) and then Maybelline lash sensational for the second coat.

So for any other make up sinners out there, don't feel too bad. We get to spend more time in bed in the mornings!
