3 ways to wear: roll necks
It's actually been so long since I've had the chance to do a styled-by-me, ways-to-wear kind of blogpost but I was working nights last week so I had some time at home in the daylight (which lasts like 2 hours now that we're getting further into winter) so I got some photos taken. I always go through phases on the kind of clothes that I love and right now, I'm loving the colour rust, long sleeved tops and roll necks. And since roll necks/turtle necks have always had a stigma for being an old persons style of choice, I thought I'd prove just how fashionable they can be. And also because all 3 of these roll neck tops are brand new from New Look (each one under £10) so I wanted to show them off. FYI, I'm still on my black tight hiatus which is why I haven't worn them in any of these photos (I don't know what my issue with them is this year but I'm holding off for as long as possible).
It's been a while since I've worn a skater skirt so I had fun posing like this again! The most essential roll neck anyone can own - a plain black one. I always think that when you wear an outfit with high contrast, it should be balanced which is why I often match my shoes to my top or coat. Like with this outfit; I wore chunky black crocodile boots (river island) to match the top because I went with a colourful skirt. I've only worn this skirt (missguided) like once on holiday but I really love it. The vaguely Indian inspired print is really cute and the colours work across all seasons, particularly right now though. In all these photos I was wearing my YSL Rouge Volupte lipstick in shade 03 but this would look amazing with a red lip.
Not following my current love of long sleeves but this white top is made of a fine knit rather than a jersey fabric so it's just as warm. I wore it tucked into these khaki missguided trousers, although I prefer not to tuck into things that are fitted because you can see the fabric underneath which is not very chic but never mind. Again with the balance thing, I added these pointed white pumps (primark) which are ridiculously beautiful and ridiculously painful and ridiculously cheap. When they say 'you get what you pay for' - they mean it!
My favourite of all 3 outfits is definitely this one! Even though I have like a million striped tops, I always worry when I buy a new one that I'm going to look too sailor or too escaped-convict but this one is perfect. I love the fact that it's black and camel rather than black and white because it adds a very subtle hint of colour. I kept the rest of the outfit very simple with a black A-line skirt (this was from new look) and then my must-have thigh high boots (also new look). Seriously if you are going to buy only one thing this season, make it a pair of these boots (or does that count as two things? I'm obviously not suggesting you only buy the one boot). They are actually warmer than wearing trousers or jeans and they look super stylish and effortless!
