I don't really do monthly favourites blogposts very often because I don't buy things that are traditionally featured in them; skincare products and new makeup brushes and different makeup brands. So instead of a monthly favourites, this is more of a current loves blogpost. Not so much products but lifestyle type things. The first being my current favourite TV show/obsession, Once Upon A Time. I've always loved Disney films and fairytales and so this appealed to me straight away when I saw it on Netflix. But I never expected it to be as good as it is. Literally it is the best written piece of TV I have ever watched. It's so intriguing seeing the present day equivalent to each characters story and each one is either a prequel, sequel or twist on the original fairy story. There are literally so many plot twists and everything links together and slots in place. They manage to seamlessly tie each one together, linking Anna and Elsa to belle and rumplestiltskin and then to hook and peter pan without seeming like they have just thrown them together. It's also interesting to see which characters they've made good and which they've made evil and how they've altered the original story; some characters also take on the role of two different characters, for example the millers daughter out of the original rumplestiltskin story is also the queen of hearts from Alice in wonderland and it's so clever how they make that transition. Oh and the actors who play Snow White and Prince Charming are married in real life after meeting on the show; isn't that just the cutest thing?
The last and only time I have ever featured a book review on here, it was a scathing one about Zoella and her lack of writing ability so I thought it would be nice to do the opposite. This is a book that I first read a long time ago and recently re-read and fell in love with all over again. Sarra Manning is one of my favourite authors and Unsticky is about Grace, a 23 year old who has a shopping obsession, a job in fashion (where she has a tendency to get looked-down-on and let herself get trampled over) and a lack of belief in true love. She meets Vaughn who is older and ruthless and filthy rich and he offers her the chance to be his mistress - basically a girlfriend but without the emotional attachment and with £7,000 a month thrown in on top. Spoiler alert: predictably they end up falling in love but it's more realistic than some books can be. It's not 'they meet and live happily ever after' but more like 'they're both seriously flawed but somehow they work well together and complement eachother in the best way'. It's also got a fifty shades of grey feel to it with the sex scenes and billionaire lifestyle, but the sex scenes are only added where it adds to the story, rather than just being thrown in every other page just for the sake of it. It is a long book but all the pages and sentences and words feel like they add to the story and create characters that you love and root for, nothing feels like it could've been or should've been left out.
My favourite fashion piece lately is definitely this knitted grey dress with roll neck and belted waist - it's a great length and really nice fabric and I just love the way it fits. It's only by chance that these shoes are in this photo too but coincidentally, I've been loving them too. They are both beautiful and comfortable and heeled and lace-up and khaki - all of my favourites.
I'm not the kind of person who is obsessed with music like some people are; I wouldn't define my music taste by a genre (I just like everything), I don't have a favourite band and I wouldn't really be bothered about seeing any singer in particular live. However, I have loved Taylor Swift ever since Love Story back in 2008 and her latest song, Wildest Dreams, is one that I am totally in love with. I can (and do) listen to it on a constant loop for atleast an hour before changing it and the video is incredible - that yellow dress looks amazing. Also Scott Eastwood looks really hot in it and I like the whole 1950s style. Also, who knew that Taylor could look so good as a brunette?!
I thought that by working at McDonalds at less, it would be so much easier to avoid bad food. But it's maybe even worse in the office! Everyone brings in cake and biscuits every other day and there's always a box of chocolates being passed around somewhere. Not to mention the temptation to get lunch at Caffe Nero or Starbucks which are both right round the corner. Instead though, I went in to Sainsburys and discovered a love for their healthy eating range. All the meals are like 300-400 calories and they have a great selection. My personal favourite is the pulled pork, slaw and sweet potato mash (300ish calories) but they literally have loads to choose from.
A girl still has to treat herself though and I think my life would be somewhat lacking if I didn't eat out regularly. Me and Laura recently went for afternoon tea at Browns which was amazing (their red velvet cake is to die for), and I discovered something amazing. After 19 long years of wondering if I was adopted from a foreign country, my British heritage finally kicked in - I'm now finally a tea drinker! You may not think this is a big deal, but my mum and even my team at the office, who've only known me a month, were shocked.
I actually spend a ridiculous amount of money on lipsticks but seeing as I don't buy any other makeup very often, I don't feel too guilty about it. I've been looking for a perfect brown lipstick for ages and on my hunt I found Paramount in MAC. It's not the brown I want, but I fell in love with it all the same. It's more of a brick red kind of brown and it's got a satin finish so it has the perfect amount of moisture.
For a year at my internship, I did a hell of a lot of pinterest and so when it came to building my personal one my heart was never in it. But now I don't dabble in pinterest at work too often, I decided to work on my own. And now I'm obsessed - oops. Go and check out my boards and give me a follow; my username is jenniaimee (like on most things). My favourite pins are baking ideas, quotes, makeup and interior design. I'm literally planning to move out and decorate my own place as we speak.
