I heard you good with them soft lips

Lipstick shopping, especially high end lipstick shopping, is one of life's great pleasures. When you walk into MAC and everything smells nice and expensive and everyone's smiling; I think it's one of my happy places. I haven't bought any new MAC lipsticks in a while because I feel like my collection is quite well rounded; I have a red, a bright purple, a dark pink, a dusky pink and a range of nudes so along with all my high street lipsticks, I haven't felt like I needed any new colours. Until I started testing some out.

I have been wanting a darker nude, more of a brown lipstick, for a while and so when I tried out Verve I knew it had to be mine. It's in a satin finish which is my favourite - generally speaking I only look at satin and matte lipsticks because I really don't like the over-glossy finish of the lustre or cremesheen lipsticks (although I do have a couple from where I've totally fallen in love with the colour and couldn't resist). This shade isn't too dark which I like - it's still very wearable in the daytime etc.but it's more of a striking statement lip than a dark nude like Taupe for example.

Retro was more of an impulse buy (something that you'd be surprised to find out I don't actually do very often). I did like the look of it a while ago but I think it was when I bought Twig instead and then I haven't looked at it again since. But when I tested it again, it did seem to fill a gap in my collection that I didn't know existed. It's a really warm colour somewhere between nude, pink and red and I think it'll be lovely to wear going into Autumn. Again, it's a satin finish so it's my favourite because they're long-lasting (unlike the lustre shades) but keep your lips moisturised (unlike the matte shades).

On a different-but-not-entirely-unrelated note, while out shopping for new MAC lipsticks, I also went to collect some online orders from river island, topshop and new look and I didn't even realise it at the time of buying but I'm definitely on a theme right now. Notice any patterns? You can obviously expect to see a lot of khaki and stripes in my upcoming outfits...
