Fa(ce) to fa(ce)

Oh. My. God. 6 seasons, 130 episodes, 91 hours and finally A has been revealed. Anyone else who watches it (which I'm assuming you all do if you're reading this) will be just as dying to discuss the Big A reveal as I am and 140 characters just wasn't enough, so a blogpost was necessary. Beware, if you haven't seen it yet; THIS POST CONTAINS MAJOR SPOILERS. Everyone on twitter seems to be really disappointed with A being Cece and even though I had guessed Wren, I thought it was amazingly written and such a good storyline. At the end of season 5 when we found out about Charles, the theory of a transgender brother, people assumed that Charles was Andrew. But basing on the theory of a transgender brother, logically A had to be a girl. If I was to guess a girl, I would've put my money on Melissa but Cece was even better. The fact that she was always said to look exactly like Ali, makes perfect sense if they are brother and sister and her motives are there. My issue with how far the whole situation with A and all the murders and kidnapping and everything was that I didn't feel that anyone's motives would be strong enough. But being disowned by your family and your mum letting your dad believe that you were dead? That's a pretty good one. I'm also so happy that the who-hit-alison, who-hit-bethany and who-killed-tobys-mum storylines were all finally answered and in such a clever way too. Bethany killed toby's mum because she was crazy so then Cece hit Alison thinking she was Bethany and then Mona hit Bethany thinking she was Alison. But there are a few things that don't add up. For example, Toby's mum was meant to have been killed when Cece/Charles was a child but she was featured in an early series when Toby and Alison were teenagers but I think that might just be down to the fact that the writers hadn't planned the storyline all the way back when they featured her. The one thing I don't get is why Mona was shocked that it was Bethany that she hit. She saw Alison the night that she went missing and helped her to escape so she knew that she was alive the whole time, and considering how clever she is you think she'd have realised that she had killed Bethany (well technically Melissa did when she accidentally buried her alive). Also when Cece stole the A game from Mona in Radley, wouldn't she have mentioned that Alison was alive while spilling every other secret she knew of? So how come Cece didn't find out that Alison was still alive until 2 seasons after Mona was in Radley? And I understand that Cece/Charles just wanted to be close to her family but if she really was overcome with love for Alison and Jason the whole time then why did try to kill Jason in the elevator and why did she frame Alison for Mona's murder? It also doesn't make a whole load of sense as to why she tortured the 4 liars so much - surely if she was angry at being disowned she would target her dad or someone? There are some questions though that needed left unanswered (who killed Mrs D? What was Sara's motivation to be red coat?); I think people are forgetting that we still have one and a half seasons left before PLL finishes and they want everything wrapping up in a bow right now. Like at the end of the episode, when they said 'he's coming for you', people are already raging with questions about who it could be. The writers have to create suspense and mystery in order to pull in viewers for the next series - that's how television works. I've also seen people bringing up questions from ages ago like 'who killed ian?' and 'who killed Maya?' and I think they need to go and re-watch a few episodes because all of that has already been answered. There are also things like the NAT club and the Jenna storyline and Ezra's book and I'm not sure if they were just distractions from the main narrative or if they're still yet to fully be explained - I guess we'll have to wait and see. The part that's intriguing me for the next season is that when Alison was writing her name on the board in the flash forward, she doesn't write 'Dilaurentis', meaning that she must've got married in the 5 year gap. I've always thought that Alison and Emily would be end game and as the girls were preparing to go off to college, it looked like it was heading that way so it's interesting that the writers haven't gone with that. I think there were a couple of plot holes though (or loads if you read up on some of the theories online about why Cece can't be A). Like how red coat was supposedly 'in charge' when actually she was just a helper? Or who locked the mum's in the basement? (unless that was Sara before she turned up at prom). Oh and btw, noone seems to have let them out so I reckon they might have spent the whole 5 year gap down there. One messed up dating storyline that has been revealed though, is that not only has Jason dated his half sister (Melissa), he's also dated his transgender brother. Wow, I reckon he'll be the next character to check in to Radley. All us viewers should feel pretty stupid though because not only was A's identity hidden in the episode title, they literally showed us A unmasked in season 4. Cece was shown in a black hoodie with no mask on and none of us even thought that could be the reveal we'd all been waiting for. Cue mental breakdown - we'll all be joining Jason in Radley for the next season.
