We gon' party like it's a thursday
As you should know by now, Thursday is my Friday. It's my favourite day to go out on and so I forgot about saving money this week and went out instead (#sorrynotsorry). Before going out though, I spent the day back at my fashion job, which I was off from last week to work at 48 hours of fashion. I went with a double checked look (you know I love my clashing prints); these river island shorts are a favourite of mine, even though they are really short and are only acceptable worn with tights or on a night out. I haven't worn this top in a while though - it was from new look and is a really nice double-line checked print and with it being monochrome, it works well with the more classic tartan style of the shorts. I finished with new look chunky shoes and primark trench coat (which is fast becoming my spring favourite) and then my Michael Kors watch.
When I got home from work, I got ready in one of my favourite pairs of shorts which were from rihannas first river island collection, and then paired them with this cute cut-out black top from new look. I love the sleeve length and I think the cut-out adds a nice bit of detail to an other wise plain and simplistic top. I went with a nude-pink eye shadow look and cat-eye winged eyeliner and added Taupe lipstick (MAC) which is definitely one of my current favourites. I finished with gold jewellery and the same black new look boots that I've worn on pretty much every night out for the last year because I know they won't hurt me.
Despite my routinely Friday hangover, I chose not to fester in bed watching a new series on Netflix and instead got up (at a not-so-bright-and-early 1pm) and made a cake for my dad and foster brother, whose birthdays fall on the same day. Another thing that you should probably know by now is that I'm a baking queen (and a princess in every other area of my life) and aspire to be the next Mary Berry one day. For any fellow bakers out there (Leah, I think you'll like this one), I've included the recipe so you can try it out for yourself. Warning: contains about a zillion calories per slice.
1. Cream together 100g of butter and 100g of soft light brown sugar until it's light and fluffy and then beat in 2 eggs (only the yolks though, keep the whites to one side for later), 1 tbsp of golden syrup, 1 tsp of vanilla essence and 75ml of milk.
2. Sieve together 100g of plain flour, 50g of corn flour, 2tsp of baking powder and 1/2 tsp of cinnamon and stir it into the creamed mixture.
3. Whisk the egg whites until stiff peaks form (in other words, until you can hold the bowl upside down without anything spilling out) and then fold it gently into the mix.
4. Pour the mixture into two greased-and-lined cake tins and bake at 190 degrees (or gas mark 5) for 20-25 mins.
5. While the cakes are cooking and cooling, you can make the frosting by melting together 150g of soft light brown sugar, 70g of soft dark brown sugar, 110g of butter, 60ml of milk, 1 large tbsp of golden syrup and 1/4 tsp of salt in a saucepan on a low heat.
6.Once the butters melted, turn the heat up and leave the mixture to boil for 3 minutes - and don't stir it even though you'll be tempted to!
7. Pour the mix into 130g of sieved icing sugar and mix well and then allow it to cool slightly.
8. Sandwich the two cakes together with frosting and then cover it - once the icing has cooled down it sets quite quickly so you have to work fast. I finished by decorating it with chopped up Daim and double decker bars but you can choose anything, be creative!
