OOTD: preppy from the block

I think the only way I could've looked more preppy today is if I went contact-lens-free and wore my black framed glasses instead. I'm not too sure that I wore suitable attire for all the snow we had considering my toes were frozen by the end of the day but as I've said before; 'fashion knows not of comfort'. Evidently, or I would've left the house this morning in my pyjamas. I'd have to say that this is my favourite skirt right now because I just think it's really flattering and it goes with everything what with it being monochrome. Also, I don't know who came up with 'vertical stripes are slimming, horizontal stripes make you look wider' because when comparing this to my new vertical striped skirt (you haven't actually seen it yet but don't worry you will), I found the exact opposite to be true. Anyway, this skirt was £30 from river island and I really love it, even if it does look way shorter than it is when worn with black tights. I kept to the monochrome with what is probably my favourite jumper and definitely one of my staple winter pieces - this 'j'adore' slogan jumper from missguided that I wear all the time. The main reason I love it so much is because the neckline is perfect for layering over collared tops, as I did with this outfit. Because my skirt was printed, I kept to a plain collar; this white shirt was from river island ages ago. I added black chunky shoes that are still my favourites even if they aren't what you'd call practical for walking through the snow. I did manage to avoid looking completely like a stereotypical college student by injecting some jenny-from-the-block back into my outfit via the finishing touches. Of course I added a fur coat - the only snow-appropriate part of my outfit in fact. This one is probably my favourite and was £55 from fashion union at new look and I get complimented on it literally every single time I wear it. It also added a splash of colour to an otherwise colourless outfit. I finished with my Marc Jacobs watch, statement stud earrings and Velvet teddy lipstick by MAC.
