5 reasons why 2014 was amazing
I had a really nice night out with my crazy family last night (my uncle had no problem forking out £400 for dinner and drinks for us all aswell) and I know everyone thinks their family is mad but seriously mine is. My grandma spent the whole meal commenting on how fit our waiter was and then tried to set him up with either me or my cousin and gave him a hug when we left (yes she was drunk). And having such a nice (if weird and rather funny, not to mention embarrassing too) evening got me to thinking about how many nice evenings I've had this year and how good of a year it has actually been. 2013 was one of the worst years ever because it rained on both my summer holidays and then I spent the whole of Christmas and new year in hospital (my absolute worse year ever was 2008 when my grandad died and then I spent my whole summer in hospital and had to miss my holiday completely), so despite the dodgy first day or so of 2014, it has actually been an incredible year which I've spent with all my favourite people and I thought I'd look back over some of my favourite memories and tell you the 5 reasons why this year has been the best...
Well I didn't do a very good job of changing in a whole year - even my lipstick was the same! If you're confused, because I was in hospital over Christmas, my family just postponed it until I was better so our 2013 Christmas was actually on January 4th 2014 and I had an amazing family day, just like I did just under a week ago. I thought this would be fun to compare the photos and see how I've changed but my hair looks the same, my makeup is the same and even my dress is similar! The only difference is that I've put on loads of weight since then, not exactly the change I was hoping for! Even though it's a cliché, my new years resolution is definitely to lose weight!
My 18th birthday was one of the best ones ever and I celebrated it like the true princess that I am (by spreading my celebrations out over a week and being spoilt rotten). I got really nice weather (I love having a summer birthday) and spent my week with all my best friends and family, eating and drinking way too much. If you want to read about my birthday in full, you can do here and here
Through my 2 years at college, I wasn't exactly a model student - I never did my homework and my attendance was about 20% by the time I finished (so don't follow my example children). But nevertheless, I still managed to pull it out the bag in the end and achieved BBC in English language, media and photography! So we went out and celebrated in style at rock city (I've spent a large proportion of 2014 in there actually). I'm so happy I managed it and even though I was a bad student, it did teach me that I don't enjoy education and so I knew from the start that I didn't want to go to uni. I think sometimes it's more helpful to know what you don't want, than to try and figure out what you do and sometimes your mistakes teach you valuable things about yourself. Wow look at me, after that I think I should probably consider a career in philosophy or motivational speaking.
This year has been a big one in so many ways. To make up for the horrible winter me and my family had, we started summer early with an extra bonus holiday in April. Even though we only went to Spain, we still had sunshine all week - we were so lucky with the weather! It was very much a relaxing holiday; we spent the week by the pool and walking on the beach and then finished it off with a day on the rollercoasters. If you want to read the blogpost about it in full then click here. Then it was only a couple of months before I jetted off again, Spain bound for a second time but this time around it was with my 5 best girlfriends; my first holiday on my own without the parents booking it for me and looking after my passport! It was literally the most amazing week I've ever had and the 6 of us definitely became closer - we even met up with the lad half of our friendship group who were out there at the same time; it couldn't have been better planned if we tried! I also needed to sleep for about 37 hours straight when I got home and didn't want to drink again for a long time! The full blogpost can be found here. I also flew further afield in July when I jetted off on an American tour with my family. We went round California and saw the walk of fame and the Hollywood sign, we went round the national parks and got a helicopter over the grand canyon, we went to Vegas and took a tour of all the famous hotels, we went to San Francisco and shopped till we dropped and saw the golden gate bridge and then we finished up in Hawaii where we swam with dolphins and surfed and watch hula dancing shows. It was the most incredible thing I've ever done and it made me more sure than ever that America is ultimately where I want to live some day. I also can't wait to go and visit some other states (New York is at the top of my list) - if you want to read about my travels in full then look for my 'Jenni goes Stateside' blogpost series, that I wrote in July and august.
Fashion is what I've wanted to do for a very long time so you can imagine how excited I was when I got a fashion and marketing internship back in October! I'm still enjoying it just as much as on my first day and I work with some really lovely people - I also get to research fashion trends and help on photoshoots as part of my job which is not something everyone can say! Watch out, another motivational speech coming up - I think you should do something you really love; they always say that if you do something you love you'll never work a day in your life and I definitely agree. I don't dread Mondays or long for the weekend, I just enjoy all of it which I think is what life is really about.
Something else significant that happened this year was that I started my blog! It was a kind of new years resolution because I wanted to do something constructive with my spare time and wanting to work in fashion, I thought a blog would look good on my resume. But look how far I've come; I've reached nearly 7000 views and I really enjoy doing all my posts, taking the photos and writing them up. And I guess I've got to thank all of you for reading! I've had the best 2014 and I hope you've all had an amazing year too. I can't wait to start 2015 (with a bang) and hopefully it'll be just as good as this year has been!
1. I had 2 Christmas days
2. I turned 18 (finally)!
My 18th birthday was one of the best ones ever and I celebrated it like the true princess that I am (by spreading my celebrations out over a week and being spoilt rotten). I got really nice weather (I love having a summer birthday) and spent my week with all my best friends and family, eating and drinking way too much. 3. I passed my a-levels!
Through my 2 years at college, I wasn't exactly a model student - I never did my homework and my attendance was about 20% by the time I finished (so don't follow my example children). But nevertheless, I still managed to pull it out the bag in the end and achieved BBC in English language, media and photography! 4. I went on not 1, not 2 but 3 incredible holidays
This year has been a big one in so many ways. To make up for the horrible winter me and my family had, we started summer early with an extra bonus holiday in April. Even though we only went to Spain, we still had sunshine all week - we were so lucky with the weather! 5. I got a job in fashion
I don't dread Mondays or long for the weekend, I just enjoy all of it which I think is what life is really about.
And also not forgetting...
