On fridays we wear black
I have to say that a day purely dedicated to shopping WITH discounts thrown in is my third favourite kindof holiday (first is my birthday because it's solely dedicated to me and people buying me stuff, and second is Christmas because it's dedicated to giving AND getting presents, and as you can probably see from the last photo I love getting other peoples presents almost as much as my own but I'll get on to that later). As someone whose always been interested in American culture and traditions, I was shocked how many people didn't know what black Friday was. Granted, it hasn't ever been that big in the UK but neither has pumpkin pie and everyone still knows what that is (happy belated thanksgiving to my American readers by the way). It has been funny reading on twitter what people thought black Friday was; when Friday's the 13th so it's unlucky, when we celebrate black history, when we celebrate black people? The list goes on - for anyone who still doesn't know; it's called black Friday because all the huge discounts encourage people to go shopping which sends the economy from being in the red to in the black. To celebrate, I obviously spent way too much money but I also thought I'd go for a black outfit. This black shirt (missguided) is something that I didn't realise how essential it was to my wardrobe until I bought it - I wear it with literally everything! Today I wore it with these black checked skorts from new look, and my favourite black chunky new look shoes (£24.99) - and of corse black tights as always! I also added my grey fur coat (new look £64.99) which I seem to be wearing every day at the minute because it's so warm and a clock pendant necklace which doesn't actually tell the time anymore but I still like it. I went with the Chelsea girl style by adding my oversized black hat (primark) which I haven't worn in a while. In hindsight, that was probably the most terrible idea I've ever had! It was windy and rainy so it kept nearly blowing off my head and my hands were so full with shopping bags that I kept injuring myself when I reached up to clamp my hat back down on my head. I finished my look with dark berry lips for which I used Revlon crème lipstick in 477 Black cherry which is the dreamiest colour and texture - it's really thick and glossy! I don't know about anyone else but my black Friday was really successful! I got a 20% off code for missguided so I saved £50 (yes I did spend a lot to get that much off, please don't remind me or my bank account) and loads of stuff on miss selfridge was 50% off, which included a beautiful embellished premium collection purple party dress which I got for £54 instead of £120 because it let me use my student discount too! Online shopping was stressful enough because all the websites were running really slowly from everyone trying to buy at the same time, but shopping in town took my stress levels off the scale! Slow walkers and push chairs and people stopping and turning around right where you're trying to walk and people not saying 'excuse me' before pushing past you and just the general busyness of it all drove me mad! I did manage to get loads of productive Christmas shopping done though - I would show you if I could but I know that my friends and family read this so I can't go and spoil the surprise! Instead I can just show you how prettily I've already wrapped everything - I do realise it's only November and our local Christmas light switch-on hasn't even happened yet but you know what they say; the early bird catches the worm!
