Autumn knits

As we all know, wool is an essential ingredient in the recipe of Autumn. Where would we be on those cold Autumn mornings without our knitwear? However, a lot of people seem to think that means swamping ourselves in a duvet of wool rather than styling it properly. So I thought I'd put together a few transitional looks for anyone who is struggling, and also all this knitwear is new (it's the stuff I've been needing to show you for well over a week now - sorry!) and so it's the perfect opportunity to show it off. Two birds one stone and all that...

One thing I'm really excited about with the return of the a/w seasons, is the return of dogtooth! Any long-term lovers/readers of my blog will know how obsessed with it I was last year and I can't wait to revive all my old things with some new pieces. I love a good slogan tee (my favourite being my 'more issues than vogue') and so it's great that slogan sweatshirts and jumpers work just as well! I have a love of all things French-inspired (well if you can count Chanel and macarons as 'all things', which lets face it we definitely can) so when I saw this 'J'adore' monochrome jumper on missguided for only £17.99 I had to snap it straight up! It seems the rest of the high street loves it too, as river island are among others to follow the trend; they have a 'Je t'aime' black sweater, which essentially means the same as the missguided one. Yes I knew that because I got an A in my French GCSE, but if you didn't then Google translate works just as well. I think slogans and prints work really well in an outfit especially a monochrome one so pairing the jumper with this dogtooth skater skirt (miss selfridge £29) worked really well. I also tucked the jumper in and rolled up the sleeves for a more feminine and laid-back look. I carried on down the French route by adding a floppy black hat (primark £8) and red lipstick, and then I finished with these beautiful missguided strappy sandals which were only £12.99 in the sale!

I think this was my favourite of the looks I put together because it's light and fresh so it's perfect for the early autumn when you don't want to look too dark and drab yet. I love fluffy jumpers - the fluffier the better - and this missguided one fits really nicely. The cropped style means it doesn't swamp your figure and the slightly-too-long sleeves looks casual-luxe and keeps your hands warm too! Plus white goes with everything, and it was only £19.99. I hate sizing that works in S, M, L but I went with S/M and it fits perfectly. I made this outfit all about the textures; I added these satin pink shorts (missguided £14.99) and white croc strappy heels (missguided £24.99). By accident, I also made this outfit all about missguided! I finished with a red colour pop lip because I think red and pink is winning combination.

If you read my 'Luxe for less' blogpost, then you'll know that I've been lusting after the perfect blanket wrap ever since I saw Rosie Huntington Whitely in her gorgeous Burberry one. I already have a tartan scarf though so I wanted something a bit different - like this neutral-coloured one from new look with striped edges (£24.99). I think creams, beiges and camels are a winner this season! They're really chic and classy and go with literally everything! I wore a short grey shift dress under this one to match the grey in the blanket wrap, and then added my black floppy hat (because no outfit is complete without it). I've seen people tweeting about how they love autumn because of Halloween and toffee apples and fairgrounds and falling leaves etc. but for me, autumn only means one thing. It's an acceptable time to get my over-the-knee boots back out again! I loved them last year and they are such a wardrobe staple - I think every girl should have a pair. I'm also on the hunt for a taupe pair after seeing them in a magazine but they were from an Australian company and worked out at about £350. Even I don't want a pair that badly - come on primark, hurry up and bring out a dupe pair! I carried on with the neural tones of the outfit by adding a nude lipstick; Velvet teddy by MAC.

I fell in love with the roll-neck grey sweater dress featured in one of the latest river island campaigns (I also fell in love with the grey mules but I was wise enough to know I wouldn't be able to walk in them, which isn't something I can usually say about myself), but by the time I came to buy it, it had sold out. So as a compromise I found myself a grey roll-neck jumper, and a grey sweater dress - effectively 1 for the price of 2 rather than the other way around (and I wonder why I don't have money). I found this jumper for £21.99 from missguided and it's a really chunky knit so it'll be great in winter. It's quite long and I think it works well when you can only see a tiny bit of the skirt/shorts underneath - I went with a black checked skort from new look. When you go for an overlap outfit, rather than tucking the jumper in, you have to keep the bottom half quite short. If the skirt/shorts are long then it just looks badly put together. If your not brave enough to go barelegged this time of year then wear with printed trousers instead. I finished with nude; nude court heels (£19.99 new look) which are great for elongating your legs and nude lipstick (velvet teddy by MAC).
