Luxe for less
My recent Valentino-esque blogpost gave me the idea to try and find other money-savvy ways to be a shopaholic and fashionista without having to sell a kidney or re-mortgage your house. One of the most popular (and most photographed) pieces of the new season is the personalised Burberry blanket cape, seen on Rosie Huntington Whitely, Olivia Palermo, Suki Waterhouse and Sarah Jessica Parker aswell as many other famous fashion icons. However much I'd love it if they had, I don't think Burberry have heard of Jenni from the block so I don't think I should expect a personalised cape in the post any time soon. In the mean time, New Look are selling this gorgeous dupe at only £19.99! The tartan print and warm colours are so this-season and the blanket wraps are so warm and cosy. Whoever decided they were fashionable for the season - I salute you! Warmth and beauty rolled into one. New Look have got quite a few of them at the minute in all different colours and patterns so if tartans not for you then you should still think about having a look. Plus one size fits all, so there's the added bonus that you won't have the heartbreak of your size being out of stock.
I saw this pair of strappy black heels (first photo) featured in a few different magazines (Reveal magazine to name one of them) and I just had to have them! I found them on the H&M website but they were £59.99 so I had to sit tight until pay day. This was one of those occasions that made me believe that everything happens for a reason; the universe made sure I was poor when I found the H&M pair, so that I had time to find these missguided beauties for only £12.99 in the sale! I just fell in love with how strappy and feminine they are! The heel is a little higher on the dupes aswell which is always a good thing.
When Nicole Scherzinger brought out her collaboration range with missguided, this fishnet top was flying off the shelves (well flying out of the stock warehouses or wherever but that's just semantics). It was about £20 so not expensive in the great scheme of things but you can get the same for about a tenth of the price! Simply buy a pair of black fishnet tights! I love doing a bit of fashion DIY and this is an easy one; just cut off the feet to make the holes at the end of the sleeves and then cut a hole in the crotch area for your head. Try it on and you can always cut away slightly more so it fits you nicely. Try to get a seamless pair so you don't have a line running down your chest and then just laying over a bralet, or just a bra if your brave (or no bra at all if your Rihanna).
This 'blowout vs. budget' style blogpost reminded me of the feature towards the back of each months issue of Cosmo, which compares home products like light shades and cushions and ornaments - one side expensive and the other a lot cheaper. Then underneath the feature is a little guess-which-is-more-expensive game with two almost identical looking pieces. So I thought I'd play copycat. Which do you think is more expensive, the left or the right? Well the one on the right is from Topshop for £75 and the one on the left is from New Look for only £29.99! So if you said that the one on the right was the expensive one then well done you win! And your reward is that you can now go out and buy the New Look version, knowing your saving yourself £35.01 - you can thank me later.
