AW14 trend: midnight garden

Big question of the moment: how do you take florals from summer to autumn? Well for a start ditch all the bright colours - stick to pastels, muted tones and a dark base rather than a white one. Finish by throwing in some oriental or petal print styles and you've pretty much nailed it. Oh and one more tip - make the most of skirts and shorts while you still can. Before you know it we'll all be in jeans and boots and polo necks. For those of you who live in permanently hot countries; I envy you.

This skirt has pretty much been my favourite out of all the ones I've bought this summer. I got it from H&M in America and it's just the perfect fit, length and fabric. The neutral stone colour is handy too because it pretty much goes with everything. Including this high-neck miss selfridge blouse that I got for £25. The black base and slightly-oriental print makes it perfect for the season and I matched it with these new look mule sandals (£22.99). I think I actually have some kindof skill for buying shoes that hurt, I now own shoes that each hurt a different part of my foot. I have ones that hurt the backs, the insides, the outsides and each one of my toes - surely that has to be pretty hard to do? Maybe it's a skill I could put on my résumé...

I don't think words can even explain how in love with this co-ord I am - or how happy I am that co-ords are carrying over into the autumn! It's by Oh My Love London at Topshop and it's £32 for each piece; quite expensive but definitely worth it. The chiffon fabric is floaty and feminine and the long sleeves take it into autumn nicely. If you're shocked about me adding the hat again then start getting used to it because this is going to be a regular thing. If you don't have a hat yet then seriously get yourself down to primark; along with this one they have the same in burgundy, a couple of different coloured bowlers, a camel fedora with feather detail and a grey feminine-and-classy version of a bucket hat. They're all about £8 so I might have to snap myself up a couple more. Plus they actually fit my head! I have a pretty big head (I blame it on my brain being too big) so I never fit the ones in Topshop so it makes me very happy that the ones that fit me are the cheapest. I finished the outfit with nude patent heels (£19.99) that matched the flowers in the print. Wearing this outfit, I feel like I should be heading out for afternoon tea - a clichéd British activity that no British person actually does on any kind of a regular basis.

I love the miss selfridge floral 90s crop tops. They're really flattering, really good value (only £12) and come in the cutest prints; this black, white, pink and burgundy one is great for this time of year. I was planning to try and resist burgundy or berry tones this autumn (because its a cliché) but they seem to be pulling me in already. I kept it late-summer-early-autumn by pairing it with this dusky pink skater skirt (£29) and black la moda sandals (£24). If you've seen any of my posts with this skirt in before then you'll know I can't resist posing like that with it - don't judge me! As we go further into autumn and creep slowly into winter, I'd change things up and wear this top with white jeans/trousers, black mules or boots and a burgundy coat (yes, I do already have one on my shopping list, along with about a million other things that I can't afford).
