50 shades of lipstick

Just like my coat collection, my shoe collection and my nail varnish collection, my lipstick collection is also impressively big, ever-growing and arranged in, what can only be described by a sane person as 'an incredibly anal and OCD order'. My room is pretty much the mascot for 'a place for everything and everything in its place'. But being a typical girl and shopaholic, I can never have too many of anything (the saying has expanded from just shoes over time). So this week I added a couple more lipsticks to my collection from the brand new Moisture Drench collection by No7. I also got my skin colour tested to see what lipsticks would suit my skin tone (there's a whole world out there that you're missing out on boys). My skin tone is beige, pretty much exactly halfway between the palest (Laura) and the darkest (black or mixed race people), but seeing as I've got neutral skin rather than cool or warm, I've got a pretty wide choice of colours that supposedly suit me. So I couldn't just buy one, afterall variety is the spice of life. Apologies in advance about the bad picture quality but I didn't get home from work in time to take the photos in day light.

My saying about 'it's not what you know but who you know', turned out to be true with the lipstick-buying aswell as going out drinking on bank holiday. Both of Laura's parents (one of my best friends and weekly shopping-and-ladies-who-lunch partner) work at the Boots head offices so they get really good discounts and offers, one of which being any No7 lipstick for £3 instead of £10! She had two of the vouchers so I thought I should make the most of it and buy two! Considering I bought 2 for just over half the price of what 1 should've been I think I did pretty well. I went with this gorgeous apricot colour in 'Ginger rose'. It's a really warm yet soft colour - perfect for daytime and a little more subtle than a coral lipstick. The new collection is also gorgeous; the colour goes on nice and strong yet it still has a nice shine.

I also got this raspberry colour (obviously I had a bit of a fruit theme going) in Soft earth and it's the perfect day-to-night kindof lipstick. When looking through the collection, I immediately dismissed all the red colours because I think you only need one, maybe two, really nice red lipsticks in your collection, and I also dismissed all the bright fuchsia-kindof pinks because they really don't suit me. Anything too pale or too bright and it just doesn't work on me (which is annoying because I'm currently searching for the perfect nude lipstick which are all pale and make me look like I'm part of the living dead). It's all well and good being told what colours you should wear for your skin tone but you also need good personal judgement. Having honest friends and family helps too.
