we're not living in paris in the 1920s

So as you know, I went on a bit of a primark haul recently and the outfits I put together made me feel like a Parisian fashionista from the twenties. Typically, people associate the 1920s with flapper girls and Gatsby-style jewelled dresses but move into the city of love and it's filled with tailoring, midi skirts and of corse hats!

I've wanted a big floppy hat for a while now (I think I might've mentioned it) and I did find a really nice one in River island for £28 but I'm glad I held off on buying it because then I found this amazing dupe in Primark for only £8! I think hats are better in Autumn rather than summer, which is annoying because it's much more likely to get blown right off your head (which it actually nearly did when I wore it yesterday). It's a really nice feminine hat aswell meaning it suits almost everyone, some of the borrowed-from-the-boys styles only work on certain face shapes or hair cuts. Plus black goes with everything. I also got this midi skirt for only £10 which I am completely in love with. They only had sizes 8 or 20 so I chanced it by buying the 8 and I'm so happy that it fits perfectly! I also got a camel coat that you'll see in a future blogpost, which is also a size 8 so my post-holiday diet is definitely working! I love the sheer top layer and the length is really flattering and it's a really girly skirt that makes you want to twirl around and around. I paired it with a blue striped crop top (Topshop, £8) and then balanced my black hat with these new black shoes. Mule shoes are definitely in right now and these heeled sling-backs are perfect and they were only £14. They've also got a pair without a strap across the back and a pair with a zip down the front. I finished the look with a colour block red lip for which I used L'Oreal Color riche in 461 Scarlett crème.

The hat and shoes are the same in this outfit as the last - see how versatile they are! On my mini-haul I also got this long-line white jacket for £17 which is just the perfect transitional piece. I think the best seasons for fashion are Spring and Autumn because it's when all the new trends are coming in; the new colours and cuts and styles. Winter is full of too many layers and wool and summer is too hot to wear the kindof clothes that make great outfits. This jacket is perfect because it's got 3/4 sleeves and it's quite a thin fabric so it can be layered while it's still warm outside. The bright white colour also keeps it from being drab and lost in the midst of winter which seems to be filled with black and khaki every year. Because of it's long length, I contrasted it with this short (probably a bit too short but never mind) monochrome playsuit that I got from Topshop a while ago. I love the high neck against the jacket lapels and I finished the outfit in the most classic way possible. How else to finish monochrome than with red lipstick?
