Jenni goes Stateside: look to my right and I see the hollywood sign

I know I said I'd blog this on Saturday but I had work and then I went out and on Sunday I didn't bother leaving my bed except to swap the discs in my dvd player of my gossip girl box set. But potato, potarto, here is the entry! After leaving San Francisco, we travelled along the coast to get back down to LA so it was a really pretty drive. We stopped off at Cannery row where we saw some sea lions and sea otters, and Santa Barbara which is so pretty it looks like it belongs on a postcard, before we stayed the night at Pismo beach. Out hotel was on the edge of a cliff and overlooked the sea and the beach had the softest sand I've ever seen! We also somehow inadvertently carried on with our Big Bang theory theme. While we got ready, the episode where they go to San Francisco was on (coincidence!) and then we went out to eat at the Olive Garden (which Howards mum loves). Which now, so do I! I had the most amazing meal of grilled chicken topped with crab and a creamy lemon sauce served with mashed potato. I've actually been trying a lot of new food while I've been away including crab, grilled swordfish and lobster ravioli. I've also eaten all the stereotypical American junk food like Wendy's, a 3 Musketeers bar, Jelly Belly's, a moon pie, French toast, pulled pork burgers, cheesecake, pancakes and/or waffles with bacon and syrup, pop tarts and giant pretzels. Yes it's safe to say I've probably put on about 3 stone while being on this holiday but no I do not care. I'll just live off salad for a few years when I get home.

Then the morning after we were in Hollywood! And just like the song told me, I looked to my right and there was the Hollywood sign. Granted it was quite far away but it's not exactly hard to spot. Unlike all the famous people I was hoping to bump into, who seemed to be hiding that particular day. I was hoping to bump into Jennifer Lawrence or Jennifer Aniston (I love them both and I do have to wonder if it's because they share my name) but I had no such luck.

I did however, bump into Marilyn Monroe - or her Madame Tussaud version atleast which I think is close enough. Besides, I don't think I'd like to bump into her real version what with her being dead for 52 years and all. I did see her star on the walk of fame though which is currently over 2000 names long!

I was actually surprised how many names I didn't recognise at all on there but I guess it's been going so long that the modern celebrities only make up a small portion of the names. I did find the Olsen twins though and Walt Disney (I'm a die hard Disney princess film fan, always have been, always will be), aswell as some fairly random names like Bugs Bunny. I wanted to see Richard Gere or Julia Roberts, neither of who I even know for sure are on there but they're both accomplished actors so I figured they must be. It wasn't that I just randomly plucked they're names out of thin air, but I saw the stars for the Ritz brothers and Ella Fitzgerald which was where Vivian picked up Edward in Pretty Woman and so I thought the stars of the movie should be immortalised in star form.

Even though I didn't see either of the main characters on the walk of fame, I did see the hotel where the whole thing was set and filmed - The Wilshire. Apparently it was actually filmed in the penthouse but the scenes in the Lobby were filmed somewhere else because the Wilshire has a really small lobby (weird what with it being such a grand hotel). Speaking of movies, we also went past Fox's studios where all the major films are made and we saw down the fake street that's used in a lot of films. You just change the street name signs and it can appear in whatever movie you want.

I was also quite happy to find out that my hand is the same size as Emma Watson's (star of Harry Potter, Brown university graduate and FHM's #19 most sexiest woman of 2014). It doesn't exactly look like it in the picture because I was in a really awkward pose to turn round and look at the camera. We saw the hand prints of the Harry Potter stars, the Twilight stars and oddly the Star Wars stars (the hand and foot prints of R2D2 and C3PO were interesting to say the least). Again, there were loads dated from the 1930s who I had no idea who they were but there were lots of people I did recognise like Matt Damon and George Clooney.

More hotspots from Pretty Woman - Beverly Hills and Rodeo Drive! Okay so even a shopaholic like me isn't stupid enough to go shopping on Rodeo Drive seeing as I am neither an Heiress or a self-made millionaire (atleast I'm not yet, give me time). But even just driving through it makes you feel instantly richer. And as for Beverly Hills I can see why all the celebrities buy huge houses out there. To say it's such a tourist hotspot, it's surprisingly calm and quiet. It's pretty too - all the grass is a perfect green and the houses are amazing. New life goal: to live in Beverly Hills and to shop on Rodeo Drive regularly. I'll update you in a few years and let you know how it's going.

Even though I couldn't afford Rodeo Drive, it still made me itch to shop. So lucky for me the next stop was Santa Monica. Not only does it have a beautiful beach and pier but it's also home to Santa Monica Boulevard - the perfect place to waste a few hours shopping (I also got hopelessly lost but the less said about that the better). I got some amazing bargains in Sephora - Americas makeup shop. This Urban Decay Naked palette is nearly £40 in the UK but I got it for the equivalent of less than £30 and the benefit 'they're real' mascara is £26 in the UK but in the US it was only $10 - working out at about £6! I also got a Mac lipstick and YSL lipstick, which I mainly wanted for the beautiful casing but the colour is lush too. I also got loads of clothes from forever 21 and H&M but you'll have to wait until my next blogpost to see them because I'll be taking a break from my Stateside posts especially to show you what I bought. Seeing as it hasn't worked out the last 2 times I've tried to put a day on it, I'll just tell you to watch out for it!
