OOTD: Exam attire

Well the dreaded day finally arrived - the day of my first exam! I was actually much luckier this year than I was last year, last year I had 4 summer exams and they were all right at the start of study leave so I had no time to prepare, but this year I've only got 2 and they're right in the middle of study leave so I've had time to prepare but I still finish for summer in time for my birthday. Not that I really did a lot in the way of preparing, unless you count reading over notes for half an hour last night before Made in Chelsea came on 'a lot'. I've always been alright with exams though, I feel really sorry for people who get themselves all stressed out and worked up. I have picked good subjects in terms of exams though; photography, English language and media. Photography doesn't have an exam (although I find coursework so much more stressful), media revision involves watching a lot of films and TV and English language is about what you write on the day, rather than like literature where you have to learn books and quotes off by heart. And I've always enjoyed writing so that works for me. Although the enjoyment gets taken out of it after writing for two and a half hours non-stop. It's not good for the soul - or my hand, which was red and very painful by the end of it.

I wore pastels of course; I realised the other day that I've been living in either black, grey or printed jeans for so long that I couldn't even remember when I last wore a pair of blue jeans. So I wore these pale blue jeans - well, technically they're jeggings (Topshop £30), which makes them super-comfy and I got them in a bigger size because I was going for the slouchy-casual style. This look would work really well with mom jeans or ripped jeans too. I added this black mesh crop top with pink and green floral detailing (Topshop £28) and balanced the black and light blue with my black cut-out boots from missguided (£34.99). I finished it off with my trusty pastel pink missguided coat (it matched the pink on the top perfectly!) which was also £34.99 and then my usual gold hoop earrings and gold watch (both new look). Like every other day, I got ready in nice clothes and put make-up on and did my hair. I was disappointed that some people seemed to take the opposite approach though. Exams are great for people-watching because I ALWAYS finish early and have atleast 20 minutes to sit in silence, so what better way to spend the time than looking at other people's outfits. It was slim-pickings though as it seems some people thought that just because it was exam day, that it was a good idea to roll straight from the duvet into the exam hall. The just-got-out-of-bed look doesn't fair well with me on any day of the year (sorry not sorry). Among the sea of dodgy leggings and jogging bottoms, I did see two girls that were dressed amazingly though, which restored my faith in the students of bilborough.

The first one was wearing blue and white gingham print jeans (the blue versions of my gingham Joni jeans from Topshop - £38) and like me, she'd gone for blue and pink. She wore these pink and white cleated sole sandals from missguided (£24.99) and matched them with a pink biker jacket similar to this one I found in Dorothy Perkins for £38. I'm not suggesting she was naked under the jacket, I just couldn't tell what she was wearing under it because it was zipped up but if it was me I'd add a white cami.

The other girl was pulling off a classic look; monochrome. I've been lusting after this palm print monochrome shirt from Topshop (£35) for ages but it's sold out in my size so I was massively jealous when I saw her wearing it. She paired it with a white asymmetric zip skirt (I found a similar one without a zip in Topshop for £20) and black tights, and then finished the look with black framed glasses and black Dr Marten brogues which are roughly £80 (you can get them from loads of places like Schuh and Office). I wouldn't personally wear a pair of docs but they did look good on her and she pulled off the geek-chic look perfectly.

So those two girls restored my faith in fashion, only to have it cruelly stamped out by the passengers on the bus home, who were wearing mismatching tracksuits, sporting badly dyed hair and eating cheese and onions crisps very noisily. Wow I really need to start driving and get my own car.
