OOTD: Clashing florals
This is a look I haven't really channelled before: clashing prints. But due to the gorgeous sunny weather today, I thought I should experiment with some of my floral pieces. As a fashion lover and shopaholic, it's important to be able to seek out new clothes and trends and style them well. Something that people often forget though, is that you should also be able to revive old clothes and make them seem new again. So with this outfit, I've chosen my brand new shoes and coat, aswell as hunting out an old top and skirt to give them a new lease of life. Both are styles that I don't really like/wear anymore; a skater skirt and a peplum top. I got rid of most of my peplum tops in one of my many wardrobe clear-outs (I have so many it's almost unhealthy), but I just couldn't let this one go because I love the print and colours so much, even though I never wear it. It was from new look about a year ago and was roughly £13. I also don't own many skater skirts anymore because I don't think they're that flattering (contrary to popular belief) but I love the floral print and the ditsy girliness of this one so I hung onto it (it was from river island and I think it was around £25). I thought the small print of the skirt and the large print of the top made them perfect for a clashing outfit, and the fact that blue and coral contrast really well. By tucking the top into the skirt, it's near impossible to tell it's a peplum and the skirt looked better when worn with heels. I also thought the white background of the top and black one of the skirt added the ultimate contrast; monochrome. It also meant that the black heeled cut-out boots matched much better than if the skirt were light-coloured aswell. I am so in love with these boots (£34.99 from missguided) and they're perfect for this weather. When it's just getting sunny, you don't want to be too full-on and wear sandals with bare legs so cut-out boots are the perfect compromise. They're also really comfy which is obviously important. I love my new coat aswell (also £34.99 from missguided) and even though there's no pink in the rest of the outfit I still think it goes with it really well. I added my trusty new look gold watch and gold hoop earrings, and a coral lipstick to match the flowers in the skirt. This one is Revlon Colorburst in 015 Tutti frutti and is a lip butter so it's halfway between a lipstick and a gloss, meaning its shiny but stays on all day.
After another gossip girl marathon (I have way too many, I think I should seek professional help), I was inspired by my idol Blair Waldorf and her Paris outfit (well every artist has their inspiration). The clashing prints, full skirt and heels gave me the idea for today's summery outfit. Sadly I'm not really a hat person so I avoided adding a beret; I did go through a stage of wearing a black bowler hat but that's about as far as I'll push it. That was also when I had a full fringe so it doesn't really suit me now I've grown my hair out, but who knows, maybe some day I'll be wearing berets and fedoras galore.
