Ways to wear: missguided two-piece

Seeing as I've been writing this blog for a couple of months now, I thought it was about time that I started to actually feature in it. As always, I've been shopping on Missguided again, and one of my favourite recent buys was this gorgeous lemon yellow dogtooth two-piece. Obviously dogtooth is always good in my book and yellow is an absolute must for SS14. I thought the top was really sweet and the cropped style is the perfect length to be worn with just about anything, without it being too short or revealing. Same goes for the skirt; I thought it was just the right length for this time of year and the asymmetric style is really flattering. The fabric is really soft too so it means it's comfortable aswell as cute. And at £14.99 for each half of it (making the whole thing just under £30), I just couldn't say no. I think some people can get put off two-pieces though as they worry that they're not very versatile and can only be worn in one way, so I wanted to show that that's definitely not the case. To prove how versatile they are (even one in yellow dogtooth), I have put together 3 ways of wearing it as a two-piece, 3 ways of wearing the top and 3 ways of wearing the skirt. Excuse the dodgy lighting; the sun kept going in and then coming back out (proving you really can't trust the British weather at this time of year). Oh and FYI, my tan is completely natural and if you're wondering why my feet are so white in comparison to my legs then join the club; I don't understand it either.

Obviously this is the simplest way to wear it; by just adding shoes and a few accessories. This is a nice way to wear it in summer or late-spring when its warm enough to go jacket-less. I teamed it with white frilly socks (£3.50 from Topshop or 3 pairs for £8) and glittery jelly shoes. They're everywhere this Spring, including Topshop, New Look and Missguided, but I got this particular pair of Juju Jellies from Office last summer. I thought a simple necklace worked better than a statement one, and because the glitter in my shoes was silver I went with a silver chain.

This is a good way to wear it until it gets really hot and sunny. Adding black and grey adds a good contrast to the bright yellow and white of the two-piece and keeps it looking a bit more dressed down. I don't really wear flats unless I'm nipping to Tesco or am extremely hungover, so I chose these heeled black boots (I wear them with LITERALLY everything), but black flats would look just as good if you're not confident in heels. I thought this boyfriend jacket looked good as the loose fit kept it casual, and the length is just right as its slightly longer than the skirt. Both the shoes and jacket were from New Look, shoes £24.99 and jacket £34.99 (although I got my student discount of corse).

This is a great outfit for when you want to dress it up a bit more. I love oriental prints and so I was over the moon when I found this blazer in Primark for only £13. I'm not normally a fan of mixing or clashing prints but in this case I think it works well and the blazer is well fitted so it keeps it looking smart, as well as adding warmth when the sun goes in. I fell in love with these shoes at first sight too. I love barely-there heels but always struggle with stilettos so to me these are the perfect balance (and they help me balance better which is a necessity seeing as I'm really clumsy), as the straps are thin and 'barely-there' but the heel is a block heel which makes them about 1000 times comfier. They were only £24.99 from new look and they're so feminine and go with everything.

This is an outfit made up of two halves of two separate two-pieces (wow that's kind of confusing). Both are from Missguided and the top is part of a two-piece that goes with an A-line skirt of the same lilac dogtooth print. I wouldn't of thought that an all-dogtooth outfit in two different colours would look good but because they're both pastels I think it actually looks cute. The top is the same fabric as the skirt so it's just as comfortable, although the straps are elastic as oppose to fabric so they dig in a little, but at only £9.99 I could hardly say no. Again, a very summery outfit for when it's warmer and I paired it with the same shoes from New Look, but if you wanted to wear it sooner then just add a boyfriend jacket and boots.

Okay the sun had completely gone in by this point so it's kind of a good job that this outfit involved a jacket. I wanted to show that you could wear the skirt casually, so I teamed it with a pink bralet (the same one from my 'pretty in pink' blogpost from Missguided for £9.99) and an army-style jacket that I got from Urban Outfitters about 2 years ago for around £50, but it's quite a popular style so you can get similar jackets in loads of high street shops. Again, I think this jacket works well as it's as long as the skirt, and the nipped in waist and rolled up sleeves stop it from looking too masculine. I matched this outfit with white leather converse that were £55 from Schuh, which sounds like a lot but I got them just over a year ago and they still look pretty much brand new. For an extra £10, I'd go with leather over canvas as they just last so much better. I love this bralet with this skirt though, I think the pastels look really sweet together so if you wanted to dress it up just lose the jacket and swap the converse for a pair of heels.

I wanted to weave this skirt into a more grungy, slightly edgy outfit to show it doesn't have to just be worn with pastels. You wouldn't think the clashing prints would go together but as the dogtooth print is small, it can make the skirt look colour-block yellow, making it more versatile. I love this shirt from Topshop, which I think was £32 when I got it, as the boxy style is always a winner for me, and of corse I'd pair it with my trusty New Look boots. The darker colours in this outfit help it to work better for night time as well as day and if it's cold, again just add a jacket (either a boyfriend coat or leather jacket would work).

The top was slightly easier to style than the skirt as it meant I could get the jeans out (who doesn't love a nice pair of jeans). I started with a more casual look that would be perfect for this awkward stage between winter and spring. The dark grey jeans are Joni by Topshop and cost £36 and are an absolute favourite of mine. They go with everything and look amazing teamed with pink (not to mention how comfortable they are). The boots are my New Look favourites and the bomber jacket was from Matalan for £12. I think it looks better with the sleeves rolled up but if it's a bit chilly then keep them down. I love the contrast in this outfit; the black and grey bringing grunge with the yellow crop and the flowers on the jacket keeping it feminine.

I think out of all the outfits I created this was my favourite. When working with pastels, the pink/yellow/blue combo will always come out tops. The jacket is brand new from New Look for £39.99 and has gorgeous stitching detail, and its nice for this time of year as it's not too long. It also works well when worn as a cape, great for when your not sure whether to wear a jacket or not. The shorts are too big for me now as they're from last summer and I've lost weight since then, but I think I can still get away with them and the colour is so gorgeous I couldn't bear to part with them. The scalloped detailing around the hem is amazing too and keeps them nice and feminine. They go so well with this top as together they show a little stomach but not too much so that you look indecent. I put this with the black boots again even though I thought it'd look better with white. I've my eye on a pair of Vagabonds; if you're lucky enough to already own a pair then definitely put them with this outfit.

I've wanted a pair of white jeans for ages and I've finally bought some in time for my holiday that I leave for on Saturday (I literally can't wait). Obviously I went with Joni by Topshop as I love them and already own 4 other pairs in various different colours and shades. And lets face it, pastels always work well with white; its a fact of life. Another essential for SS14 is a kimono, ideally a floral one like this one. I got this for only £13 from Primark the other week so get it while you can! Its the perfect in between for when it's too hot for a jacket but not quite warm enough to go without one and the white and pink oriental flower print means it goes perfectly with white jeans. The barely-there black sandals dress it up a bit but it looks just as good with boots or flats. Keep to a black or coloured shoe though as white-on-white can look a little odd.

So if you're going to invest in anything this payday, chose this Missguided two-piece! It's so versatile and the possibilities of how to wear it are endless.
