Fashioneaster
Happy Easter chicks! (and guys of corse). Not only does Easter Sunday signal the end of lent (which I didn't take part in this year because I gave up all foods containing chocolate 2 years ago and it was simply too hard; a girl can't live without chocolate), it also signals the beginning of the end. The end of the cold and the end of the need for a jacket and the end of school or college. For me this year, it signals the downhill slope to the end of education altogether. It's also a day for family traditions in my case. It's something my Grandad started off and I don't know why, but every Easter Sunday we have Roast Turkey. It was made to feel even more like Christmas by the fact we had Christmas crackers, as my mum gets overexcited and tends to buy about 10000 boxes when they go on sale. I, on the other hand, was just happy to be able to dress in pretty pastels and eat lots of chocolate.
Like when I get ready any other day; makeup comes first. I did my usual bronze smokey eyes, which I tend to do every day, then I decided to go with pastel lips and nails. After deciding to wear lemon yellow, I contrasted with mint green nails and peach-pink lips. The nail varnish is a brand new one that my mum treated me to the other day (she's so cute), and I'm really happy with it after using it for the first time. It's Barry M Silk nail paint in Meadow 403, the colour is gorgeous, it only takes 2 coats to build up a really solid colour and the matte-style finish is so nice. If you'd prefer a shiny finish though you could always add a clear top coat. For the lips I used Rimmel lasting finish colour rush in Not an illusion 700, which along with my Ted Baker lip crayons are among my favourites. It stays on really well too, even once the shine wears off, the colour stays perfect.
After falling asleep with wet hair last night, I decided to leave my hair how it was. This is what my natural hair looks like, although in summer I get serious ringlets. However, if you're lucky enough to have naturally straight hair then you can get this look by using a large-barrelled curler and curling bigger sections of hair at a time to get these loose waves. Plaiting it overnight would also have a similar effect.
With make-up and hair finished, it was time for the outfit. Pastels are a must for Spring, but even more so, yellow is a must for Easter. I chose this River Island top (I've mentioned it in one or two blogposts before, it was £25) and paired it with these gingham print jeans that I bought from Topshop on Thursday for £38 (but of corse I got my student discount). With them being Joni jeans, not only does it give them a free pass to fast becoming another of my favourites, it also means they're really comfortable. Ideal for a day dedicated to eating waaaay too much. I also wore my white gladiator shoes (featured in my 'Praise for Primark' blogpost) which are perfect for spring when it's not quite sandal weather. With them being white, it also means they're perfectly matched for pastel clothes. I finished off the outfit in the only way I know how; with plenty of gold accessories. Today I went with a necklace from accessorize, plain hoop earrings from new look and gold watch with silver face from new look. Normally I would add gold midi rings (also from new look), but I actually lost all 3 of them on a night out on Thursday. Needless to say, I plan to replace them the second I have some spare money.
Not to let tradition fall through, my mum planned an Easter egg hunt for me and my brother. Before you ask; yes we are both DEFINITELY too old for it, but we've had one every year for as long as I can remember and even though she likes to moan, I know my mum secretly loves planning it. To say our family isn't even religious, I did pretty well out of Easter Sunday. I got 7 Easter eggs (as you can see mainly white chocolate ones; my family know me so well), a gold Lindt bunny, plenty of mini eggs and mini crème eggs and mini lindor eggs, and £20 (money which will be spent replacing my midi rings). So adapted from the words of Marie Antoinette; let them eat chocolate.
