My dogtooth obsession

Okay I have a very big obsession with dogtooth right now and I'm starting to worry it's unhealthy (I even have a pair of dogtooth knickers). I now own a dogtooth top, dogtooth leggings, dogtooth and floral print treggings, a dogtooth skater skirt AND a dogtooth bodycon skirt and I seriously can't stop. But I just think it's such an easy print to wear and it really fits in with the monochrome and monopastel trends (that I'm equally obsessed with). I'll go from left to right to keep things simple;

1. My dogtooth top is from Missguided and was £17.99 (even less with my student discount, you would think NUS extra actually pay me as a promoter from the amount of times I've said to get a card), and I was a bit worried before it arrived that the fabric might be a bit cheap and the print might look a bit dodgy because of it but I couldn't of been more wrong. It's a really nice thick material because its a boxy top, so the print is really bold and sharp which I think is the only way dogtooth should be; if you're going to make a statement in a print then you have to do it properly. I also love that it's long-sleeved because its one of the few items of my clothing that actually keeps me warm (I don't tend to like winter clothes or layers). I tend to keep the rest of my outfit monochrome when I wear this top, so like I might pair it with black jeans and heeled boots, and then add a tiny bit of colour with a bright lipstick just to really set it off.

2. My dogtooth skater skirt was from Miss Selfridge quite a while ago, in the petites range for £29. I hate that shops like Miss Selfridge and Topshop do petite ranges that are different from their normal stuff, and more often than not the petite stuff is loads nicer. Great news if you're small, but when I'm 5 foot 7 suddenly it doesn't seem so great. But I think you can get away with skirts and dresses in the petites ranges because it's not like it can easily be too short. Especially with the skater style, it keeps it feminine without being overly short (although this is really not a skirt to wear in windy weather!!!). I like wearing this skirt with quite girly things like a white embroidered blouse or a fluffy pink jumper because I think it's a more subtle way to wear dogtooth.

3. My dogtooth leggings are the new addition to my little dogtooth family; they were only £12.99 from New Look! Again, with them being so cheap I worried they might be a horrible material that would go see-through when you put them on but they're actually really nice and thick and the print stays the same even when worn. I think these are really versatile, they could be worn rolled-up with a pastel cami top and mary jane shoes or tucked into heeled boots with a black over-sized blouse. I think they're a good staple piece to have in your wardrobe as they can easily be worn casual or dressed up.

4. My dogtooth bodycon skirt (it's folded up in the photo but it's roughly mid-thigh length, shorter if you wear it really high-waisted) was from New Look aswell and I think it was around £15, which I thought was really good value. It looks really nice when kept simple; a black cami (tucked in or left out, whichever you prefer) and black heels are all that's needed for a great outfit, with maybe a colour-pop lip, because let's face it what outfit doesn't look better when the lipstick goes on. The best thing about wearing monochrome is that you're free to do your makeup and nails in any colour because nothing can clash!! Everything will only complement what your wearing. If you wanted to wear this skirt in the day (or for something more casual) then I'd say add black tights, swap the heels for flats or boots and change the cami for more of a full top like a boxy top.

5. My dogtooth and floral print treggings were from Topshop and I love them so much! The fit of them are a bit weird with them being treggings rather than leggings, because they're a bit baggy at the sides but I loved the print so much I had to buy them anyway. Personally I think that these really are a statement piece of clothing and so everything else should be kept to the absolute minimum when wearing them. I think if you tried adding clashing prints or too much colour then it would be a bit too much, seeing as there's already the dogtooth and the floral print going on. So either a black or white top and black heeled boots worn with them will really give them a chance to shine.

Please say I'm not the only one who is this obsessed? If not with dogtooth then definitely with monochrome and monopastel in general, I don't remember the last time I wore an outfit that didn't fit in with one of the two. Maybe when spring starts showing signs of arriving then I might add some brights and revive the floral prints that have been sat neglected in my wardrobe all winter. Hmm, we shall see.
